The OM606NA engine in the 1995 (W124) and 1996-97 (W210) E300 has a plastic cover over the injectors; having never operated either car ('95 or '96) without the cover I don't know how much effect it has on noise. I wonder if some foam insulation around the injectors under the cover would make the sound reduction even better?

I'm not familiar enough with the 606 engine to say but high density closed cell foam is a very effective noise barrier and heat resistant enough to place on the engine as long as its not touching the exhaust.

BTW, anybody looking for a not cheap W124 diesel 5 speed.

I have no connection with the seller, I just found it.

I wonder how much additional sound reduction we might realize by using the same closed cell foam as a hood pad AND as a direct cover over the injectors.

What about the pump? Seems they throw some noise too, ever watch one on a test bench? Hella racket. Doesn't bother me but I'm half deaf so maybe I'm not the best metric.

Excited to venture in to the w124 territory since they're a more modern car and I now get ABS brakes!

The hood pad is fairly effective as far as I can tell. On my car the majority of the engine noise comes from underneath the car and the grill. Nothing I can do about the grill, but I'm planning to use the same foam to insulate the 300e undertray I'm using. I think the original OM603 under tray was insulated.

Yes, the injection pump makes some noise as well but its mostly drowned out by the injectors. Trying to insulate the IP seemed like more trouble than its worth.

I'll get some pics of the insulation when I swap out the injectors in a few days.
