And I tried the EPC site and it would not let me subscribe, I'll try again when I get home.

That would be a homerun. That's going to be my issue, rerouting everything.
Taking it out is the easy part.

Thanks, I'll update along the way.

So sad to see the "conversion" on my dream car color. Don't blame you for not replacing with a non-converted. That is a hard color to find!

Take the HIH fittings off your heater hoses. Either replace the hoses or get fittings to splice them back together. The coolant part is done.
Now take off all the fuel lines and valves and associated wiring. Replace with new fuel lines.
Remove GC filter.
Remove tank from trunk along with the HIH lines.
Done.

Thanks, fattyman, pretty straightfoward.

I never knew about the MB website, EPCNet online.
Unfortunately, I am not able to subscribe, I have a Mac, I don't know if that's the problem. I can't do it a work either. From reading some of the forums here it seems that I am not the only one having issues accessing the website.

And yes, the pale/olive green is a nice color.

Anyway, I'm going to start with the heating and tank this weekend, as stated pretty straight forward taking it out.

I'll post photos anyway, this way maybe it helps someone else down the road.

Unfortunately epc does not likes macs.

I would pick up an old cheap used Windows laptop, get it on your wifi, and use it as your garage computer.

Having a computer in the garage is invaluable these days for reference. And spotify/pandora/iheartradio beats regular radio any day.

I think VirtualBox is available for MAC. That is how I access EPC on my Linux machine: VB into Windows.

Started the removal today, just thought I would post some photos. As someone mentioned, the removal may help someone in the future. Actually, the removal may also help someone with the installation also.

The 240d will not longer be the "Manhattan College Engineering Veggie Car"

First I removed the rear auxiliary tank, pretty easy to do without making a mess. There is a lot of room in this trunk.

Both of the red tubes exiting the auxiliary tank are coolant and fuel lines.
The rear line is a coolant line and the front most line is a coolant line with a fuel line running in the middle.

It always seemed that the engine/veggie system wasn't warming up properly, well the coolant line with the fuel line in it had crud in it and it was not circulating properly.

This is worth mentioning for the people with "veggie" systems because it may be a problem for others.

The two lines went from the rear of the car, behind and under the rear seats (where the line was crimped by the seat), along the floorboard, under the front seats through the firewall to the engine bay.

The line with just the coolant went to a tapped coolant line on the right side of the block (standing in the front of the car).

The line with the coolant/fuel went to a diesel filter/heater contraption on the left side of the block (standing in the front of the car).
The particular line is that red line that is rising to the contraption I mentioned. It has two clamps above it.

When I removed the filter/heater contraption the coolant line was empty leading me to the assumption of the blockage by the crud and the rear seat.

That's all for now, I will post further during the week.

Dwayne

I have most of the plumbing and electrical out.

I am trying to determine the routing of the fuel lines.
There are two fuel lines on the right side of the car, along the inner engine bay across from the IP.

I could not take a picture, but the two fuel lines lines split like a "Y" lying down. The fuel line on the bottom goes toward the rear underneath the vehicle and the one on top goes under the brake booster.

Can anyone, provide some guidance as to which way the fuel lines go, using the picture of the filter housing and it various attachments.

I am assuming the line on the bottom is the fuel entering the fuel system and the one on top is a return line.

Thanks in advance,

Dwayne

The filter head in the pic does not look factory and is something custom. Is the car drivable and are you near NYC? Stop by and I can have it back to stock. I should have all the parts it may also.

Well, it looks like there have already been a few offers, but just the same, please PM me if you are interested in selling both of the 3 port fuel valves. My brother has a project on-going and would be willing to take them for a reasonable price!

Hi Fun,

I'm pretty sure it is what comes with a '74 240d, I've seen photos and it looks the same, if not very similar. Also, the Mercedes fuel filter fits correctly.

No, it's not drivable, I am in the process of putting the fuel lines back, which is what I need help with, the correct routing.

Also Psaboic, yes I've gotten a few offers, but I will keep you in mind.

Dwayne
