om603 into audi A8?

I know I know i'm crazy but how hard would it be? Om603 into an Audi a8 say a 1999 A8? I think it would be a neat combo...

Those big Audis are cheap at the moment but I think an OM603 would make it a bit pedestrian - there are newer diesel engines that would whip it along quite nicely though.

How about an OM606 Turbo/5-speed?

Why would you do that when a factory V6 TDI engine and transmission are available? I don't think the I6 would fit.

Your first problem is that the A8 is essentially a front wheel drive car with a north/south configuration meaning the entire engine sits ahead of the front axle. The front of the OM603 engine would be sticking out of the bumper.

Good idea, I just thought it would be an interesting combo I like that A8 body style and love the 603 motor. Your suggestion makes alot more sense.

One word, electronics! Plus maintenace, the A8 is cheap for a reason, nobody sane can afford to keep it going (either by paying a shop or DIY). Certain parts are crazy expensive too. Hats off if you can make it work, but remember these cars have lots of electronics that are integrated, take away the engine and perhaps the gateway goes down (so nothing works-even power windows, radio, abs, seat heaters its all integrated). Its a great ride, but modern Mercedes have caught up with diesels.
