Sorry for the response delay, my phone was acting up and I had to go get my lap top

As to respond to the last post, Yes I plugged the yellow valve back into the line it came off of, and drove it around the block and no change
I think I might have bumped that before I took picks, I also added small zip ties to the lines once I was finished today and checked for deteriorated or rotten hoses and didn't find any.

So after my first trip around the block, this is what I did, Those were the four main lines running into the cab
I drove it around the block again and no difference.

I got a Vac machine and hooked it up to the green striped line that comes off the top of the rocker cover and goes down to the IP. It wont hold any vacuum

then I did the same thing with the red striped line running off the rocker cover down to the IP and again, it wont hold any vacuum

Im not sure if I am testing them right or not, I am leaving everything hooked up except the line I am trying to test, yet Im not blocking off the port the line came off of, while it is being tested. will that mess the whole test up on those particular lines? They both end up on the same valve coming out of the IP.

I can't be positive but I think you are also missing a bushing in your linkage and the carter key that holds the linkage to the throttle pivot bushing.

Whose engine is that in the pic in your post, Its not mine. Is that just a reference for throttle linkage?

My throttle linkage pics

Everything feels nice and tight, even when I grab a hold of diff. parts of it to check for worn bushings

I hate to say stuff like this, but I am afraid this car may be to complicated for you. You are really going to have to do a lot of research and reading to figure how each component works and how to troubleshoot each.

Here is the vacuum diagram for your transmission.

Now you have to learn what each color line operates, then you will know what you can disconnect and what you have to leave connected....aka transmission and shut off.

The 2 yellow lines one should be sold the other with a green line....these are for the central locking system.
Brown- this is for the shut off valve.
Black with yellow strip....cruise control..
Green is for climate control.

Once again, all my lines seem to be hooked up correctly according to the examples I have seen, and all the lines are connected nothing seems to be off or just hanging. The 2nd green striped line coming off the Y that goes from the rocker cover to the IP looks to be hooked up also.

Is this diagram going to be the same for Euro models (which is what I have) as it is for the North American models

Yes, you have the same components that are on this diagram. It may not be exact but its all that is available. You have a euro model, they are more complex in a way then us models but you can use us examples for comparison. For instance there were no non turbo 300d's in the us in 1983 so everything you find will have turbo information on it or diagrams for the vacuum system with a egr system. Us cars had no vacuum adjust headlights, euros do, so no us diagram will have those vacuum lines on it. When looking for parts, you will have harder time. You will need to get parts for a 240d or a 1978 300d.

You need to start by measuring the vacuum on the main line with none of the accessories attached. It should be somewhere between 18-21 inches. Then test the vacuum on each accessory branch to see which ones are holding vacuum and which aren't. Those accessory systems are: Yellow--locks Green--climate control Brown--shut off and then the circuit for the transmission.
I'm not familiar with the shut off system on your model pump but you should be able to test it the way I described earlier.

I can do that. My week is kinda full now so I probably wont be able to get back to this until next tuesday, so dont be discouraged if this post goes to the bottom for a few days, I will keep everyone posted as soon as I have made any more tests. If I can make the simple main line Vac test sooner I will and get back to you sooner.

Once again Thank you all for all your help so far!!!!!

I am determined to not take this to the shop unless I run out of advise or know how or time, as it is a car for my friend and he would love to start driving it ASAP, wouldn't we all though Lol.

Anymore advise between now and then will be read

A couple more euro options it didnt come with are the City/Hwy horns, headlamp wipers or a rear sun shade, still A pretty decent find for the money., It is a A/C car but not working yet, I'm Happy with the purchase, it has no problem getting right up to 80 or 85 and cruising, The no rust thing really sold me though, like literally, Not one bit of rust I could find anywhere I checked and Ive had enough of these to know the problem areas, doesnt really smoke hardly either. All the paperwork says it came over from Deutschland about 7 years ago, went to Cali till about 4 years ago when it came to Oregon, and should continue to live a nice long life here.

Don't be discouraged, everything is complicated and confusing until you gain some experience. Search this forum and read, read, read then ask questions. You'll have it figured out before you know it. After all, its not brain surgery - even I can fix alot of these problems.
