Gone now

After 12 years and 200K miles I replaced my 1981 300 SD. Loved that car, but I have had little time to keep up on the maintanence and repairs.
Still was my daily driver up to a couple of weeks ago for the 120 mile round trip. Just could not spend another summer without a sunroof and no ac.
So I donated it to a Veterans Group. I could not face selling it. Hope it finds a good mechanic and a lot of fresk oil.
So I bought a 2008 Bluetec. Very sweet to drive.

Can't beat the new technology.

My Supercharged 4.6 Mustang knocks down 27-28 on the freeway with a 3.73:1 axle and 6 speed...Go figure.

Unfortunately, the fate of most old cars donated to places like that is to end up at the self service salvage yard. It's really frustrating to walk by rows of cars that you couldnt find anywhere else for sale if you wanted to, all waiting to end up in the crusher.

Condolences......I know exactly how you feel.

After 305K miles, I, too, sold my '83 300SD. That was 14-years ago. It was the first car I sold that I ever missed. The rest were American branded J*nk from the '70s that I drove prior to going MB diesel.

The bright side is that the used W211 '06 CDI is a peachy keen dream to own and drive. Congrats on the Bluetec!

My Condolences to You, Old_Dies, on your loss (!!) I think I know how you must feel (though I don't imagine ever getting rid of my '83 SD.)

I too, am a 'WrenchSlinger-for-Life', I think. I've told my wife the other cars go first!

More seriously, as long as we're on this thread: Got a friend here in town looking for an older MB diesel - he's lookin' to join The Club. Let us know before you trash your old machines!

I thought about finding someone here that wanted it. But I am across the county from most and it had so many needs..
Well. I hope it finds a good place to go to, with a lot of fresh clean oil. Thats what it seemed to need the most.
