the 123 book is quite weak on proper specs, and details for many repairs. for the 124 I'd just download the fsm from startek...

I have everything on CD anyway.

Large Public Libraries often have the Haynes Manual

If you feel the need to get one buy it used on eBay. Yesterday there was one as a buy-it-now for $5. I did not see the shipping charge on it.

For some reason the Haynes 123 manual devoted a lot of space to taking apart Manual Transmissions. So it could be useful if you have one.

I use the w124 zone website for my 95 E300D.
You can check this out, it is for OM602: Mercedes Benz Model 124 - OM602, OM603 Maintenance Manuals

Starekinfo.com had a free manual for the 124 cars. Look under workshop resources.

I know the Haynes as bad torque specs on critical parts for the W123, based on this and the fact that they havent fixed it in the 30years they have a chance to, I avoid. FSM uber alles!

...and no, the W123 and W124 have very little in common as far as the repair manuals are concerned.
