Help with shocks for 1995 E300

I'm pretty good with parts and part numbers (especially since those are part of my job as an engineer). But I am so sick of this nonsense.

To make it clear, I want Bilstein B6 (heavy duty) shocks, not struts, for the rear of my wife's 1995 E300. I have no lowered the suspension, nor is anything else different than stock.

Bilstein lists it as:
24-100441
With old p/n of F4-BE3-A044-H0 and F4-BE3-A044-H1

So I try Mercedes, get their p/n off of EPC. (Their price was $160 per)
Old p/n: A124 326 23 00
New p/n: A124 326 23 00

Then I try Rusty's old company... and they won't pick up the phone... grrrr....

Then I try Peachparts: ($97 ea)
124-326-23-00-M12
[specifically labeled HD]

Okay so far...

Then I try partsg33k and I find this.
W0133-1910418 ($63.25)(no note)
W0133-1910420 ($60.25)(without self-leveling)
W0133-1910416 ($70.25)(without self-leveling)

I tried Amazon, which would sell the shock....for $281!!!!
But the software wouldn't connect the part to my car.

I tried TireRack, but they won't agree that the part is available for my car, nor could I find a corresponding p/n.

Can someone please tell me what the magic part number is so I can actually compare a price?

(If you can tell, I really miss Rusty and Phil)

Alright, has anyone with a w124 replaced their rear shocks with Bilstein?

Did you use B6 or B4?

I've gone through about ten auto parts places now and no one seems to know what I'm talking about.

Not sure if this link will come through but p a r t s dotcom has OEM, which is AFAIK Bilstein, for $130 each. Did not search by part number, however.

http://www************/parts/1995/MERCEDES-BENZ/E300D/?siteid=2&vehicleid=1195534&diagram=5715466&diagramCallOut=3

This is just regular, not HD. But do you really need HD?

EDIT, well, I see that it did not come through. but if you put in a dot followed by the url noted above it should work.

That's for Mercedes original parts.

I'm looking for Bilstein B6 shocks.

I don't know if this will help anyone. I ended up ordering through eff see pea. They had a few other parts of certain brands I needed, and I didn't want to split the order up between companies.

They were finally able to find it through Bilstein# B36-1385 which matched the MBZ number.

thats what I put in my car too. they are a bit firm on low speed but absolutely fantastic at above 50 mph, my car would literally feel like it engaged the road as if they were rails on it. The faster I accelerated the nicer the grip. General 195/65-15 tires on original ronal rims.

Make sure you replace the ball joints too (they are shot if they are old) search my threads and make your own press - makes it a walk in the park. Reason to say is that when you are replacing the struts it only takes a few minutes more to do the ball joints and also wheel bearings if you remove the hub.

They don't carry HDs. Only B4 (comfort) and B8 (sport). I went round and round with them through email on it.

Oh I'd love to do a complete suspension overhaul on this car. But right now finances are a bit tight, so it will be awhile.

The driver's rear shock mount (on the shock itself) broke and the shock was just poking out into the trunk area. The only reason I noticed was because it would rattle in the hole and I could tell it wasn't quite damping like it should in that corner.

I believe I've got HD's on my 124-300D. I will look in my records and see where I got them from.

http://www.*******.com/Mercedes~Benz-parts/300D/Shocks-and-Struts?brand=Bilstein&year=1991&m=169&e=606

I bought Mercedes Shock Absorber - Bilstein B361385.

Everything I find indicates B4 has "heavy duty" grade and "standard touring" B8 is sport (10mm shorter IIRC)

Yep, that's where I ended up buying them. Partly because they were one of the only places which would confirm the Bilstein numbers.*

I ordered two of B36-1385 which they were able to match to MBZ #124 326 23 00.

*The other reason I ordered from FCP is that they were the only supplier who would also supply me with Lemforder sway bar links and Hebmüller w123 steering box seal kits.
