Need a rear Axle - Which Brand?

Hi, guys. I noticed that I have a torn boot on the drivers side axle. I have also noticed that I can hear a a bit of a humming sound a feel a very slight vibration around 50mph. So, I am going to replace the drivers side axle. I have looked around some and found them from $35 to about $200. I don't mind installing a rebuild unit as long as it is good. Who makes a good axle for these cars, and are there any to stay away from?

If you can, get yours rebuilt. They are hardly much more expensive than the cheaper new ones, but the quality is there because its the MB part.

But before you do that, just be sure you really need them rebuilt.

Do a search in this forum for a good re-builder. I used CVJ Axles. Shipped them my old ones, they rebuilt them, and shipped them back. 3 year warranty.

When you get the ones in your car rebuilt, you know the spacers and everything will fit right when you re-install them.

Trust me, knowing it will all go back together easily is worth it. When you get new ones, you don't know if they will fit right.

That was my experience.

I used CVJ when I replaced the axles in my 1985 300D-T.

Thanks. What is a rough going rate for a rebuild? Just noticed that the passenger side axle is from CVJ in Denver.

The CVJ Place is the only well know quality place. You may find some local Place that would reboot them; but that is not a rebuilt.

In the First Year that I got My Car I replaced My Axles with rebuilt CarDone Axles from what was Kragens Auto Parts. However, the Boots Started Cracking in about 3 Years.
I Rebooted those and the actual Axles have been fine throughout the time.

Get EMPI that is my advice. I bought some cheap ones from advanced auto parts, they fell apart in a few weeks! Not worth it at all, I think I paid $150 per axle for the EMPI's...maybe more. That was 3 years ago and no problems at all so far

also, I offer replacement axles that are pulls from my stash of vehicles. I pull the cracked but not yet leaking boots off, clean them out, and install new FLEXX boots with fresh synthetic gear oil, or axle grease if you prefer.
I've sold dozens of them and not had a SINGLE problem axle.
I will not reboot axles that the boots are not OE MB, or if the boots were torn and the oil is gone.
