the MB vacuum pump is not sufficient to use for a vacuum vessel evacuator. it'd take a LONG time to get the pump sucking that volume, plus, if you underestimate your storage size, you could suck that junk into your vacuum system... nasty.

a better choice would be to bring a battery powered shop vac or a standard shop vac and an inverter.

A shop vac would simply charge the vessel you are storing the WVO in... don't use the vac to store the oil... and, yeah, 20 minutes is a long time. also, every shop vac, I've ever seen has a ball that shuts off vacuum if the tank fills...

I don't think a shop vac will generate anywhere near 25 inches of Hg. It won't take 20 minutes with car vac pump for 20 gal. I've done it for years with no problems to the car's vac pump.

25" is not needed...

a large hose, and a good tight chamber, a shop vac, and bob's your uncle, it's in the jug.
I'll race you.
5 gallons of wvo into a 5 gallon bucket, you use the 25" vacuum, I'll use my shop vac...
lets see who gets the full bucket first.

we both have to start with empty and not charged vacuum containers...

No need to race. With the same tank and hose size, the one charged to a higher vac will win. Besides, who wants to carry a shop vac and inverter? There's enough crap already. Do you actually collect wvo with a shop vac??

I'm talking about the charge time as well... no need to charge up the tank with a shop vac.

My little 12v thomas vacuum pump charges to about 21" vacuum in about 5 min. I usually just hook it up and then turn it on, drive to restaurant and then pick up my oil.

FWIW you don't need a truck. I got a small HF trailer for $160 on closeout with a 20% off coupon. I put my super sucker in there and pulled it behind the w123 300D without issues. I need to find a hitch for my new w124 so until then my super sucker has to be loaded in to my truck. Not a big deal if you know how to use leverage

Here it is. This W210 hitch will also work on the W124. Read post #7 for the revised design.

Charge time is never an issue. It charges when you drive.

W210 Trailer Hitch

I may have to take a stab at this... Not in to spending $240 for a Curt or other brand hitch. I can probably pick up the steel for pretty cheap. Thanks for the link! I remember seeing that thread long ago before I even thought of getting a w124
