What's a cracked OM603 head good for now ?

Recently I purchased a #22 OM603 used from a friend - but it turned out to have three cracks between the 3,4, & 5 exhaust valves and the injector nozzles. I showed the photos to my friend and he refunded the money - but said to just keep the head since it is of no use anymore.

So, now I've got this head that I don't know exactly what to do with. I can pull the valves, cam, springs, etc, but is the head really only good for scrap aluminium?

Check the FSM for acceptable crack size. It is not uncommon to have cracks between the valve seats. If it looks to be within the FSM specifications, have it pressure tested at a machine shop.

It might be just fine.

I was wondering the same thing with my old cracked head that's sitting in the basement...and then I stumbled across this website. Maybe some type of coffee table? GearHead Furniture Ideas | 9K Racing

Thanks - I did have it pressure tested - but the cracks were not measured at all - jsut were identified as being cracks that were allowing pressure to be lost. The shop I used is the one our local indy recommended.

Furniture - made out of old Mercedes parts? Intersting, buy my wife would NOT endorse that.

I sold a cracked #18 on Ebay for about $170, without the cam. Buyer may have needed the prechambers, valves etc..
