1995 E300D Drivers window wont all the way up. Once it gets within 3 inches there is a shuttering noise. I attempted to search for any answer and was surprised that in the 15 minutes I was looking was unable to find one.

Wife is tired of sitting on a wet seat especially with how much rain Upstate NY has gotten!

Probably the regulator. Only way to see what's happening is to pull the inner panel of the door and have a look. You can find aftermarket (Chicom) regulators on ebay for relatively cheap, I put one in the right rear of my car and it has been fine for years. Here is the thread on my rear door regulator replacement, the most difficult thing for the front is getting the seat control switch off without breaking it, no tips other than "pry carefully".... If you break it you can find a used one somewhere on line.

Thanks for the quick reply! I do have another question/observation, The window stops now about 2 inches from the top then starts shuddering. I can pull the window up all the way but now when I try to lower it , it then starts to shudder again. Would I need a new regulator in this scenario? Thanks

Sounds like a stripped gear. Replacement is the only option I know of. A junkyard regulator is an option but you don't know anything about its condition except the car's odometer, if honest. The driver's window gets the most exercise, of course.

I just posted about this, urging people to take their door panels off while they DON'T have a problem, and to 1) lube, and 2) tighten things up to help PREVENT such a problem.

In my case, sort of the same thing. Suddenly, whammo! The window went down. When I took off the door panel, I had to figure out how to get things out, and put it back together. I too, thought it was the regular, figured some teeth were bad.

Turns out all the teeth were fine, but the lubing was dry. So I scraped off all the old grease, put on all new everywhere I could. Putting that stuff back in is a real bit*ch! Much easier if you have to people, someone to put the window up/down so you can watch to see what's going on. TAKE MY ADVICE. Take off the other door panel too and watch that, so you can see how things come off, and go back together. I don't know if you can see or feel all your teeth on the regulator, but if they're ok, DO NOT DISASSEMBLE everything. You're much better off if you can leave things in, lube them, tighten up screws. Big hassle to get that stuff out, and back on.
