OM617 Injector Return Hoses, Alternatives?

Hey everyone,

I've been replacing these return hoses on my dad's 300SD once per year nearly.

I'm wondering if there is a better hose out there? I know folks who run the biodiesel and wvo stuff usually change up the hoses...

It sounds like you are using the same low priced junk I have. Bought it for like $5.00 a yard. It makes a cheap repair. You know, some of these old Mercedes are still running with return lines that are a decade or more old, but no leaks. You can still buy that line cut to the correct size for I think $17.00 (or close to that) for each piece. That is what quality costs and does for you. Then I also think it is a little more for the long piece in front and a little less for the end piece.

I am using tubing from McMaster Carr. While my tubing has a tag on it that says 8684-4245 25ft, I can't find that number on their website at the moment. Perhaps you can contact them to find out exactly what part that really is.

It is great stuff. It's just a little hard to get it over some injector barbs, but it is possible to get them on when you wrap a little bit of copier paper around it to help your fingers grip it better.

It is cheaper than Viton.

viton hose definitely lasts longer
you can also get the clear tygon hose if you want to see the fuel and any air bubbles flowing through. you can get it at oreillys in the lawnmower aisle.

I went with some Tygon from McMaster-Carr. It was 85 cents a foot.

5552K23 Fuel and Lubricant Yellow Tygon PVC Tubing 1/8" ID, 1/4" OD, 1/16" Wall Thickness

Should be here tomorrow!

People have said the Weed Wacker Tygon Fuel line can be had at Lawn Mower Shops.

Any sort of Rubber Hose for the purpose has to be Fuel Hose. Vacuum Hose or other Hose might fit but won't last long.
Someone also said that NAPA sells some 1/8" ID Fuel Injection Hose that will work

The black aftermarket Cohline hoses are said to not last as long as the OE MB beige/tan ones with an orange stripe. I have the latter and have not had to replace them, since removing the old ones as a preventive maintenance event.

I think I've got beige/tan ones on my 300D and they look normal, no seeping or a anything.

I've had black Cohline hoses on the SD's for years and I've been replacing them fairly regularly.

I bought 20 feet of the Tygon stuff from McMaster around 10 AM yesterday. It was at my door when I got home from work, shipping was only $4.

I like the Tygon stuff. Its entertaining to watch the diesel flow through it!

Hopefully it lasts a good while!
