Leak at plug in back of R4 compressor

The plug that fills the hole in the back of the R4 compressor used for the high pressure cutout switch in GM applications has started leaking in my car. At first I thought that was an easy enough fix, remove the snap ring, pull the plug, replace the o-ring, install the plug, and then the snap ring. After looking at the plug a bit more I can't seem to figure how out to grab hold of it in order to remove it. Does anyone have experience with removal and replacement of those plugs?

Hate to say it but here goes.

The best way to repair this is to replace the compressor.

Option 1 - get another R4 from CompressorWorx but it is still a crappy R4.

Option 2 - Search for rollguy on this board for a Sanden conversion kit. Much better compressor.

step one, remove refrigerant from car.
step two, remove circlip from compressor.
step three, pressurize the system until plug shoots out like cannon ball...
step 4... find cannon ball..., replace o-ring, and reinstall with the circlip...

step 5, grumble and replace the compressor...

Pressurization was my first guess. I'll have to see how it goes.

The compressor works just fine and the leak is small but it is leaking so I am going to take care if it before my R-12 stash runs out. Not sure why a leaking o-ring around a non-functional plug would automatically mean the compressor is shot. My biggest concern is accurately measuring how much oil comes out. If in doubt I'll just flush the whole system and put fresh oil in.

This weekend I'll take it over the shop and give it a whirl. Pictures to come.
