Question for the experts regarding making an older car feel new
I am looking at a 05-06 E320cdi. The only ones that I can afford at this time have like 275,000 miles. I know the engines will last since I own two older E300's with 350K on them.
However what parts on these newer 211 body types will be very expensive to replace and usually only by the dealer? Secondly what parts can and should be replaced so that one can have that new car tight feeling while driving the car? Lastly how much should a 05-06 E320 cdi with 275K sell for? I hope I explained myself good enough. Thanks everyone! |

I hope to purchase one of these some day too. For now the 95 E300D is as advanced as I get.
What makes you confident these engines will last a long time? Isn't the verdict still out....since they they were just recently (relatively speaking) put into service? What kinds of prices are you seeing?

I found mine, 2006 E320 CDI 59K and bought it $4,500 back of NADA Retail (what they were asking for it) at an MB dealer in San Antonio, Texas. I probably overpaid for it even with that kind of pricing, but I was totally blown away by it's condition, and how it drove. Naturally, it had been bought new and serviced exclusively at that MB dealer since new. ALL VMI records were stellar, and up to date on the car. There's no comparison to the 99 E300 I just came out of. There's very few things in how it drives and feels that I can compare it with the W210. Last edited by Skid Row Joe; 08-10-2013 at 11:18 PM. |

Joe, instead of innuendoes, can you just state what you paid for the car? NADA prices along with KBB are a joke and nowhere near what cars actually sell for.I cannt stand when looking for a car for the seller to tell me that he/she is selling their car for a thousand below KBB. Big deal is all I can think of.
Are you saying the cdi does not match up to the 98-99 E300TD or that the cdi blows the it away? |

As a matter of fact, I bid it $5,000.00 back of NADA Retail - but came up $500.00 to seal the deal! It's one heck of a car!
The '99 E300 was a marvelous car to own/drive 14-years since new. I highly recommend either model to anyone! |

How do you make an old car feel new? Replace every rubber bushing. Subframes, suspension, strut mounts, sway bar links, motor mounts... everything. As time goes on the rubber gets hard / cracked. That adds a lot of noise & vibration.
A good set of tires will help too -J

So again Joe why dont you just say the price instead of "As a matter of fact, I bid it $5,000.00 back of NADA Retail - but came up $500.00 to seal the deal!"

Once again, the prices on these things (05/06 CDIs) are ALL over the place. Do some shopping, test-driving, and tire kicking, and I'm sure you'll find something that suits you and your budget. I'm sure you'll find pricing from sub-$10K to over $20K, with miles from 25K to 275K - as you're finding. Buy whatever you like and can swing financially. I'm sure you'll be happy with whatever you buy! |

the CDI prices are from 13K to 24K depeding on who is selling. They are very advanced compared to the E300 engine.
if you think the E300 TD is a rocket, then the CDI is a rocket with afterburners.

The most transformative thing on an old car is new Michelins and new Bilsteins.
