Major milestone on the '95 E300D

Original injectors, original trans, original timing chain, original wiring harness, original radiator, original alternator, original A/C. Now on to the next one, half a million...

Congratulations! I should be so lucky. My 95 needs a wiring harness and a bunch of other work.

The horse has now woken up. Dont let the miles fool you on an OM606 in a W124 chassis - its a drivers car and was built to last a few decades a few odo rolls too.

Very durable car. Miss driving mine (parked waiting for body repair) the current W210 Im driving is not all that.

Congratulations! That is huge...

Keep on trucking...er...I mean driving

Does the wiring harness show any signs of deterioration?

What non-routine maintenance items have you encountered? What fluids are you running inside?

With regard to what fluids, I run Rotella 15-40 dino oil, and change at 3-4K. I know this is pretty conservative, I'm sure it could be extended, but I find that getting under the car every 6-8 weeks for an oil change in my case allows me to eyeball things and give everything a good look-see. I'm running Amsoil synthetic trans fluid. Diff fluid has only been changed twice during this time, can't remember what my indy used for the last one, which was done when he did the diff mount bushings, but it was not synthetic. MB coolant only.

Harness is certainly crispy and I baby it if I have to disconnect anything.

Have had spring perch failure on the LF. Vacuum pump went at ~289K. I did voltage regulator preemptively in 2005. New wiper motor and trans from a boneyard several years ago. Shocks and front steering links done at about 150K, still on those. Rear calipers replaced once with rebuilds at maybe 250K, they seem to not last as my rear disks are wearing funky once again, front calipers have been fine. Trans has 2-3 flare, did K1 piston but although it firmed the shift itself, the flare remains. Now I just back off the throttle at the shift and get firm shifts.

Car "eats" front tires, but with carefuly swapping I still get about 50K, so I can't complain. Have had high quality alignments but it still wears the front tires.

Clear coat has totally failed on horizontal surfaces, I painted the roof and trunk a few years ago and the hood needs it now. I don't care that much about the cosmetics however.

I will be sorry when something major blows up, this car has never stranded me and I still smile while driving it. Bought in 2004 for $8K with 140K on it, I'd say I've gotten my money's worth!

Rgds,
Chris W.

these are taxi fleet cars in EU - some fleets dont even shut them off for a week straight - the engines remain running even when swapping drivers.
