On the Air being 134A and this is S. Fl I am going to be looking for it blowing cold but also no vac leaks and coming out strong enough to cool the cabin quickly. I went to see a beautiful 92 300E gasser yesterday - 1 owner clean clean in & out but the AC was almost non existent like it was getting trapped in side the dash .... Thanks,. Austin .....

The cruise control servo is mounted under the intake manifold, and has nothing to do with the trans. It is common for these units to fail. I had one fail on me while revving the engine in the driveway. It caused the engine to race, and not idle down. If I was driving the car at the time, it might have caused a crash. Chances are the linkage was removed to prevent a similar occurrence. It is easy to hook back up, but be cautious, it is not worth crashing the car to have cruise control!

Last entry on the page. As far as failures go, 90%+ of the time the failure is in the amplifier. I've seen a few actuators fail but a very small percentage compared to amplifier failure. The 91 300D uses an 005 545 05 32 part number amplifier. I have put nearly 30,000 miles on one of my rebuilt amplifiers in my own 300D. https://sites.google.com/site/mbcruisecontrolrepair/home/component-locations/actuator-locations

Was this failure during revving on a Mercedes?

Yes it was on my bro's '91 300D 2.5. I started it up to back it out of the driveway and revved it up a little, but I just pushed a little on the accelerator and it stuck. On a gas car, the tendency is to push all the way down and then let off, and that is what I did. It just revved up all the way and I shut it down as quick as I could. I opened the hood and saw the servo arm holding all the way at WOT. I disconnected the arm, and it has been fine ever since (without working CC of course).
JamesDean, you are correct. I thought the servo was under the manifold (had the vision of a 603 in my head), but it is in fact on the side. I stand corrected...Rich

Don't forget the the vac pump! 91 2.5 is by far the better of those cars. Mine has the hifi audio and sounds amazing (rainbow replacements at some point).

yeah, the VP, the belt tensioner, the various front end parts, the rear sway from worn rubber... etc etc etc...
however, I'd STILL prefer the 124 over the 123... then again, I'm working on my 240D 5 speed... how crazy is that?

By far the M102/M103 are the most pain in the butt ones to access. They are fully under the intake. I think the 603 is still somewhat accessible for removal or maybe it cant be hmm. Quote:

Maybe it's not quite so stylish as the coupe, but it's been far more usefull. And with the 5-speed, I don't miss the turbo. Happy Motoring, Mark

Not a good day shopping wise. pics below . Started out from Boca - 1st stop was to see the 96 BMW stick convertible. Paint was too rough less clearcoat and scratched up front fenders .. AC I dont get it .. Like the 300E I saw yesterday, they blow cold, not cool but not as cold as they should.
Then down to South Miami - traffic s****ed . If it wasn't for the possibility of getting a nicer 300D for $2K I wold have been more picky with my time. Another lesson reminded today. see pics.

notes. The Wife Wants it gone ! He may junk it which is too bad bcs of the good of the car.....He asked me if I would take it for $800. If I need a driver I would have maybe...It is a PROJECT car but possibly worth that to a few DIYers...
The GOOD is 139,xxx original miles - 1 owner - Did start right up without any acceleration - has new $2,500 Transmission about 2 yrs ago. Seats are not clean but they are in fair to good condition. No rips but dirty. sunroof opens and closes - no leaks I could detect - dry trunk amazingly enough. The BAD - the body is pretty nasty. front end smacked up needs new bumper at least.- hardly any clearcoat left on hood- roof and bottoms of side doors... rear end really crushed in - trunk closes but is not sealed when closed bcs it is bent out of shape. interior - - headliner starting to sag over passenger front OSB. Left front & right rear windows are in-op. Amazing too is there is a leak out of one of the Diesel return hoses like a pin hole size but it squits out like a garden hose.. AC not sure about he says there is a slow leak requiring recharge 2-3 yrs time. Cruise linkage is missing ...Good tires at a glance..... If anyone is interested in this 300D in South Miami, FL and I can help , let me know... Austin
