Nope, it was never spoken at the wedding. It was an agreement prior to use getting married.

Pretty much went like this.

Me: I never want to own a minivan.
Her: Me neither... are you okay with wagons?
Me: Heck yeah I am.
Her: But what if we have a bunch of kids? Would you want to keep out of a normal van and try an SUV or wagon still?
Me: Absolutely.
Her: Good, me too.

But if you're really curious here are our wedding vows.

"I ____ take you, ______, to be my wife/husband, to have and to hold from this day forward, for better or worse, for richer or for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to submit to, and to be faithful to you alone as long as we both shall live."

Not that I am a psychic or anything, but I see a 124 wagon with a 606 repower in your future.

I am surprised no one has mentioned a W123 or W126 diesel limo

heres a good read where aaa dropped a 603 in a 1990 300TE 124 wagon with a blown gas motor. He makes it sound pretty simple-

The mail-order 300TE (OM603 project)

YES.

Was there an age limit to the vehicle? im proceeding on the assumption of the wife wanting something newer, but would she go for a 123 or 126? did Martureo say a year cutoff?

Buy one of these cheap 900 dollar early 80s 126s floating around in good tick, then go spend a 5k having a similar size donor wagon rear roof and lift gate installed, maybe even the parts from a 123 wagon donor, with some custom widening of the door and opening. All one time bodywork expense, and the car is still basically a 126 with no change in maintenance needs.

I saw that car in person, at my house.

My wife likes the 606 a little better. I'd like a turboed 606 for her personally.

Oh no, no... I thought you meant that "no minivan" was an actual part of the vows -- it sounded a bit unbelievable, which i why I wanted to double-check with you .

I'm now wondering whether the low-budget option would be to put higher springs onto Mitzi. That would give you a diesel six-seater with a ride height lightly higher than that of the wagon that i not an SUV or minivan.

Well, she does like my car, and the wagon was originally meant for her. I really think we're going to end up in a w124 wagon, but she wants the height up. And I don't really think that bumping the height of a s124 would be a good, practical or safe idea.

Honestly the height issue is the only thing standing in the way of a s124 with a 606.

I bet you could raise an S124 a few inches without much issue....just stiffen up the rest of the suspension so there's less body roll.

I've seen some Latino guys on TV who have modified their rides to adjust the height? I've also seen chairs on TV that will raise up for folks who have trouble standing up.

Rig up a 124 wagon to raise up some when the motor is stopped and lower back to normal riding height when motor is started. Maybe that would meet expectations?

That's why I was suggesting raising Mitzi -- that would be a "factory" mod. I think it was called "Raised ride height for countries with poor road conditions" or something like that. I'll get my spec book and see what the height actually is. I've been somewhat interested in doing this myself (maybe to a beater 240D), since I live in the snow belt.

My understanding is they want newer? more safety features?

How about a 210 chassis wagon diesel with higher mileage? I see sedans all the time on craigslist, did they make a diesel wagon in 210 chassis?
basically they are the 1.6 engine with two more holes, but to make the package work the pump runs off the rear timing belt, the cam runs from the front timing belt, the crank cog is torqued to something like 300 lb/ft and then some.

Not very efficient but goes like a scalded cat blowing thick, plague like black smoke.
