Yeah, having too much fluid puts undue stress on the heart. Glad they've got a plan. Hoping for the best for you and your father.

My thoughts are with you. My dad (89) went into the hospital today with a mini-stroke.

Wow! your dad's got nearly TWO decades on my father! I hope he's ok. the mini strokes are frustrating, all this started with my dad 10 years ago when he self altered his thinners for a dental procedure, and had a major stroke, and it just got worse from there... attempts to correct the heart problems, and surgical mistakes, coma, more strokes, etc... through it all, he's kept his speech, memory and facial control, so that's something. it's looking like this will be controlled, and he'll pull through this. hopefully the surgery was able to solve all the problems, and he'll improve from here.
it's JUST so FRUSTRATING explaining to the doctors about dad's blood, and his fluid issues, and then having the dr's ignore our explanations, and do their own thing, only for this to happen and then to realize... gee he's building up fluid, and it needs to come out, mabye we should alter his pressure with this and remove the fluid anyway... arrgh...
for 3 days we've been telling the dr's that the fluid is a problem for dad.

With the doctors, can you get a note from one to bring the others up to speed? That could help out across shifts, etc.

Think of it this way, a customer will always have "theories" about why their car is acting up but it's usually something else. Plus, a new mechanic will always think the last guy was a hack unless you've got a writeup of work done.

we'll see how the dr's feel tomorrow.

John,
if it is any consolation-- This happened to my mother over 15 years ago, when medical science was not what it is now. She came out of it and lived another three years. Her death was caused by something completely unrelated that was genetic to her family. If she didn't have that, who knows how long she would have lasted?

Stay strong and be positive and supportive for the others in your family.

Thanks again everybody!

He is improving, yesterday he was off the vent for 9 hours breathing on his own. today they tried a different sedative, and diretec and had him disconnected from the vent for 2 hours. the pulminologist is thrilled with his results.
dad still looks like a zombie, but you can tell he's in there patiently waiting to go home.
