OM602 300D Turbo Rebuild ?
 

I need to rebuild or replace the Garrett turbo on my 93 300d2.5. I 've searched the forum and found few if any resources on where to buy a kit or who to send it to in order to rebuild my turbo.

My car has very little power off the line and barely accelerates, which is becoming more hazardous since I can't safely merge with fast moving traffic. Usually I have to downshift multiple times from Drive to 3rd to get enough power to accelerate. Another issue is, even at freeway speed (65mph plus) if I encounter even a slight grade/incline, the power/speed drops off, in spite of having the pedal to the floor, requiring me to downshift if safe to get enough power to accelerate.

There is oil accumulating/leaking where the rubber air intake connects to the compressor, and I was told by another MB diesel owner that most likely my turbo is on the fritz, as his wife's car had the same problem before he changed it out; oil accumulating at the intake he said was a sign of a failing turbo.

I have already bypassed the EGR computer by doing GSXR's waste gate mod, but the problem has been getting gradually worse for the past year.

I checked the data plate on top of the unit but it doesn't say which Garrett model I have. During my research I found references to it being a TB25 or a TB-025, but can't find a conclusive designation.

I bought a rebuilt turbo for a 300SDL back in 2009 (I think) for about $600 from BuyMBParts....but of course they've changed owners. Have you tried Pelican? I'll be interested what you discover.

does your engine have an intake manifold banjo bolt & ALDA pressure line like the OM617? if so, that line be obstructed, starving the engine of fuel under boost.

a boost gauge may also be a cost-effective diagnostic before you swap the whole thing out. i just changed out the turbo on my car, but before doing so i got the gauge hooked up, found out where the pressure wasn't getting through, and found that my old turbo worked after all, except for its oil leak.

If it is leaking on the Compressor side and the Oil is not coming from some other source I would have to agree the Seals are shot.
Although I am not understanding how an Oil leak would reduce the Boost Pressure or speed unless there is a puddle of Oil keeping the Compressor Wheel from turning fast.

There is info where to by the Kits and also info on the fact that there is 3 types possible types of seals on the Compressor side.
Types of Seals on the compressor side are Piston Ring (Dynamic), Carbon, and Encapsulated.
If you get the kit on eBay be aware that unless the Seller has that it is made in the USA the Kit is likely made in China.

Thanks for the input. I figured it was seal that were gone, but given the milage on the car at 322K, I can't complain. I'll have to check the ALDA and pressure lines to confirm what the trouble could be.

The oil in front of the turbo intake is likely coming from the pcv hose right next to it. I’d post a picture but don’t have the patience to perform the 1980s process to get a picture up on this forum. ☹️
