Can I get some opinions on this 300d????

Please let me know your thoughts.., I saw wood peeling on glovebox and hood gap on driver side???? Anyone with better eyes??? Thanks for the help... |
Very nice car, appears in very nice shape. My only concern is that there appears to be an oil leak at the front of the engine, running down onto the oil pan....could possible be because of the use of synthetic oil or too thin....but if the milage is original a dried out seal maybe more likely....fuel filters appear old and primer pump should be replaced....braided fuel return lines appear very old....nice to see new fuel lines under the tank...means it has hopefully been cleaned....the low miles are nice, but scary to me....because things will start crumbling left and right....nice car though, with original Mercedes sheepskin covers...

Too many pics, well, almost.
Any leak at the front of the engine may be a front crank seal failure. Braided fuel lines easily replaced, same with the primer pump. I like it. |
Thanks
How to to replace fuel line related issues?
How easy to fix hood? Any idea of market value?? The guy is wanting around 11k |
1K or 11K? 11K, is he exhaling or inhaling?
|
To much, does he have hard evidence that milage is correct? I would think with that milage there would be more shiny parts under the hood...at 60k I wouldn't expect all the cad plating to be gone....mine has more and its over 160k.....with the leaking crank seal to much....tell him to fix the seal, replace the fuel lines, primer pump and filters....and confirm it has had a valve adjustment.....the rear axles boots also don't look great but not cracked...

Sight unseen? No idea whether it runs, or how it drives? No Carfax? To me making a guess on the above......t's a $3K car...... |
Pics look good to me - would have to drive it for any further opinion, but yeah $11K seems like way too much. if it drove as good as it looked, with no issues and ice cold A/C, I'd pay $4-5K but that's might just be me.

Thanks
Thanks everyone for the info/feedback

Here's the thing. JPEGs are not the greatest way to assess a car. It looks very nice. The underside looks as I would expect. The rear end sits as I would expect. It may well be that mileage. That hood thing is not an issue.
However, he is aiming high at that price. When I got my '85 300d it was only 10k more than that, on the odo, and was about in that shape. I was stopped twice by people asking to buy it. I offered it to them at $6600 (a figure I sort of pulled out of the ozone) and they ran away. I will sell you my 300d for $5k today... it isn't as nice as that car in the pics, has acquired some warts and is now at 109k. US car so you can re-import it to the US with minimal drama from USCBP.... That car? If you absolutely HAVE to have it, AND it looks in person as good as the pics, $7k... $8k? I am one of those people who says if the car is that good, and it's worth that much to you, pay for it and be done. Real low-mileage, clean clean w123s do not grow on trees. Look at what else you can buy for that price. Really.... |
looks real nice but $11k is outrageous.
|
If its as nice as the pictures indicate and the mileage can be verified I would suspect he'll get the price or near it. Beautiful car if pictures accurately depict it. Is it in Canada?
|
Granted it is a 1979 non turbo, with the evil servo....here's one similar, close milage and frankly a really nice color for 6500$ plus it comes from the original family..
