Can't be too much. I just paid $211 for six months with two speeding tickets (both in the 300D, not the sport bike) within the last two years.

No, officer, I really don't know how fast I was going. My speedometer only goes to 85MPH!

Mine's $900/yr! With a great driving record. And minimal coverage.

I need to call my insurance agent.

How 'bout the college girl that needs transportation?

Are there any cracks, deep pits in the windshield? if so, can have it replaced, along with the seal at a glass shop and the insurance should pick up the tab. That will eliminate that water intrusion, as mine did, and you'll at least get something outta that high insurance bill. Some states require free windshield replacement, even on bare-bones coverage. Check with your local window shop. While the windshield was being replaced, I used the black sealant they brought with them to seal off the back window. Not the prettiest, but no more puddles.

Also, can take the seat to upholstery shop, have them carefully remove the seat cover (MB Tex) and build up the foam on the seat bottom . . . will feel like new seat after they put back in car!!!

Or, how 'bout giving the car to the kid that is the most accident-prone, as a primary driver . . . could save his/her life (My mechanic in Los Angeles lost his CD that way, but saved his daughter).

. . . just a suggestion . . . have you used injector cleaner recently? Hold old is the fuel in the tank? The injectors might just need a cleaning to get rid of the shaking.

I have USAA but I don't really know what I pay per year. Their billing cycle is screwy. They bill me for 5 months, give me 2 months off, then bill me for 5 more months. Something like that. I have one 300SD and the F250 insured with casualty only. Whatever the TX state minimum is, is what I have. I can't recall ever getting a bill under $100. I have not been in an at-fault accident since 2006 and I have never even gotten a parking ticket but I am barely under 26 and I believe after that, they cut the rates because they consider you to be an "adult." I'm getting married in about a year, so that should help drop the rate due to my "status." Adding the wife's car, will bump it up, though.

I want to register my new 300SD as a classic car. Not an antique but just a classic. I wonder if I could save money by doing that.

I have USAA also, both cars and the house are with them.

Full coverage on the CD, liability only on the SD.

Between the two, $38.00 a month.

It's been a while since I cleaned the injectors, so I'll do that today. I also tried psaboic's suggestion and the vibration was significantly improved, so I'm almost certain it's the engine mounts though.

And I'm calling my insurance agent today!

whatever you do...do not donate it to charity.

the whole thing is a scam perpetrated by the junkyards. it works like this, the 'auction' winner will be the junkyard (who is probably the auctioneer too). They will give you a pittance.

The charity will get a certain percentage of the sale (the other part going to the broker if any). they aren't going to contest the amount because it is free anyway.

I learned this the hard way. You will feel like a chump if you do this.

I would have come out ahead if i sold the car for scrap instead.

Thanks for the tip, benhogan.

Oh, and I checked with my insurance agent and learned that my MB premium includes the uninsured motorist insurance for the entire policy. They just happen to slap it on the first car in the list, which happens to by my 300D. The real cost is $550 for the year, which still seems high, but not as bad.

Considering the traffic density and the way many people in Seattle hold steering wheels (I wouldn't call it driving), that actually sounds pretty reasonable.

So true.

Just got off the phone with another insurance agent. Found a better plan (same insurer, different package) that's $460/yr for the MB. Much better! And all my other car premiums are going down too.

So this thread just saved me a chunk of $$$!
