300SDL $1000 fix or part it out ??

I am offered a Michigan 300SDL for $1000.

The engine oil cooler lines broke (while in storage).

It has not been started in four years, because of the broken lines.

The drive train is OK, interior is good.

Corrosion is manageable, but I would never restore it to show condition.

I am seriously debating:

* Pass = let the owner scrap it.
* Buy to fix and flip.
* Break it up for parts, and scrap the rest.
* Pass it off to anyone who wants to buy and can come get it.
If you are interested, e-mail me, the car must be gone withing 30 days.

300sdl

a grand is really too much for most parts cars, in my opinion/expereince (paid 1500 for the 300sl but that was ok)....

If you can fix it up and flip it while paying yourself for your time and parts, then go for it. If you are not going to keep or sell the car for profit, let someone else deal with it.

This is my first thought as well. While it is possible for them to deteriorate in storage I would think they would fail under pressure when the car is started.

while I have taken a vow to never own another MI mercedes, putting up some photos might help interested members decide whether or not to add another vehicle to the paddock. In the meantime, what year is this car?

Oops, I deal with too many cars.

The 300SDL chassis: W126.125 was only manufactured 1986-1987, all came with the OM603.961

I will try to get pictures, but the car is one hour from my location.

It looks like a chemical breakdown of the hose rubber, very similar to extreme dry rot.

Okay. Good to know that it actually happened during storage, not while moving and that is why it has been stored.

I would buy the motor/trans for around $500, throw them on a pallet for a rainy day (if you have the space)
