Spontaneous Fuel Leak In 1987 300SDL
 
Two days ago, I noticed a wet spot underneath my SDL, by the rear left tire. Turned out to be fuel, and I was hoping to find the vent valve clogged or something not quite as ugly as this...

I'm not 100% sure how to proceed here. So any suggestions/advice would be much appreciated.

I removed and cleaned the vent valve, but I'm guessing that isn't the problem here...

After looking at the lines back to front, they look to be in pretty good shape everywhere but the 18'' or so after the rubber hoses that go into the fuel tank.

Can I get away with cutting out this 18'' section and replacing it with rubber hose?

I'm not sure how I'd go about cutting these lines, and if anybody can give me a clue, I'd appreciate it tremendously.

Your lines appear to be leaking at the supports, like mine did. Cut with a mini tubing cutter, use more hose. I replaced both fuel lines with new coated brake line tubing.

I'm thinking I'll just bypass the first 18'' of line completely, and run rubber from the tank to the good part of the line.

Use a tubing cutter, and remove a small section of good steel line, just enough to get the rubber on.

It's not nearly as elegant as what MBZ came up with, but I'm not nearly as elegant as those Germans either.:P

I'll let you know how it works out.

All of the above will work fine as long as the Hose is routed so it does not get caught in anything moving.

Mine rusted through back there under the rear most Tubing Clamp.
