Need help w/OM602 Fuel Starvation
Saturday I dove my 91 300D across PA (Philadelphia to Pittsburgh) with no issues. Today on the return trip it felt as if the car was running out of fuel on long uphills. By the time I was 1/2 way home it was clear that beyond 2500 - 2800 RPM it feels like the engine is starving for fuel. I did not add any fuel or change / do anything to the car.
Right now my plan is to change both fuel filters at the engine. However while I'm under the hood want to be certain nothing is overlooked. So I'm seeking advice on anything else that should be checked / replaced. Thanks |
Other factors are air filter, shut off valve, clogged exhaust, tank filter, waste gate open, manifold pressure not getting to the alda.
Changing the filters should do it. |
First go to the tank filter .

shut off valve - emergency stop level on fuel pump? clogged exhaust - will check (easy) tank filter - see next post waste gate open - boost holds at 10 when the starvation occurs, switched to normally closed (vs normally open) last year manifold pressure not getting to the alda - will check (easy) local advance auto shows both filters in stock. ill be there tomorrow when they open! Thanks |

But I'm going to give it a shot! Also going to swap the fuel lines if I can't find a seal and none of the items in NJ300sdl's list work. |
Make sure the IP is at WOT when the throttle pedal is at WOT.

Turned out to be the fuel filters. Ran some checks before heading to the parts store w/the Alda over boost disconnected (just in case) and the problem remained. After changing filters I'm back at 0 to 60 in 14:46 seconds and no fuel starvation.
Still plan to clean the tank filter along with buying a spare set of filters to keep in the boot. Thanks for the help. |
