Best was 48.5, but usually stayed around 48 going 55-60 miles per hour. Two full size passengers, one 80 pound dog, 20 pound baby, and a car full of gear.

Going my usual 79MPH by myself returns about 42MPG.

Man, I haven't seen those figures ever on my CDI.

What is the per tank filling calculations mpg on that car? That would seem to indicate what the car yields in mpg, moreso than a snapshot like that.

At 48 mpg - you would yield; 1,012.8 miles to empty per tank. My tank is trending low 20s at best in my CDI - city/surface streets.

I'm not getting much (if any) better than my old E300 around town on surface streets (no Interstate driving).

Not bad considering the size of the engine/car, looks like the E320 CDI and my VW tdi run about the same rpm's in final gear.....

I see that beast already has 168k on it....has it had any need for major repair during that time? (ever in its life so far?) I know on my TDi the stupid DPF exhaust doesn't even last much beyond 100k without modding it to remove it or paying $$$ to replace it. For that reason I'm likely not keeping it past warranty sadly....since driven gently it easily exceeds 50mpg.

This is about as good as it gets in my CDI around the surface streets - in stop n go traffic, w/o AC.

Usually - it's 23 - 24 mpg.........I do not have a heavy foot, nor do I run the AC.

Impressive. My 300D with the same load could maybe do 30 if I kept my foot out of it. The Kawi routinely does better than 50 mpg, but that's with just me on it.

Not very much has gone wrong according to the VMI and the PO's records. Biggest items were ball joints due to uneven tire wear and the ESP computer. The rest I would call wear and tear or normal maintenance.

wow!! remember the top gear (uk) episode when jeremy drives the audi diesel from london to edinburgh and back on 1 tank of fuel mostly by not exceeding 2k revs....i often try to do it but i just can't keep it that low

Ball joints are pretty much a wear item on the 211 chassis, they just don't last.

Buying these era CDIs are dirt cheap to own and operate per mile. Even when you factor in hiring much of the work done. According to the VMI of my CDI, it is fond of going through rotors and brake pads for a low-mileage car. Could be because of the SBC (Sensonic Brake Control) or it might be the MB dealer selling service and parts to the previous owner that weren't needed. I dunno. The car is just a remarkable machine to me. Wish I'd of bought one years ago.

The ball joints on my W210 needed replacing @ 85K+ or so. Maybe it was premature maintenance, but the alignment wasn't able to be set because of them needing replacement. I would expect the W211's LBs will need replacing in the 125K +/- range.

Although it certainly is, keep in mind that indicates that day's ONLY, cumulative engine hour meter, mpg & average speed re-cap only....... Hence, it's only a snapshot of your day trip.

There's also a; cumulative hour meter, average mpg meter, and average mph meter readings since last reset available on the CDI. Here's what mine looks like since last reset on my CDI, captioned below:

If the temporary spare is smaller diameter and mounted on the rear, might that skew the odometer reading a bit?
