OM603 Junkyard fine

A 1987 300 Turbo Diesel sedan landed in my local PickNPull one day before the 1/2 off weekend sale.

I was originally just going to pull some extra parts and did that on the first and second day, but my friends and family just told me to pull the whole thing....

Well Sunday I did and I got the engine and Transmission for about $430....

In the next week or so I will get the engine on an engine stand and start the total tear down.....

I am sure I will have millions of questions, but I just wanted to share a great find.

FYI - the crank spun great it has the 14 head on it but the trap oxidizer was replaced. It looked like the previous owner took decent care of the car. I found a lot of replaced parts like new flex disks and rebuilt heater controls - it seems they intended to keep driving the car. It did not have any obvious crash damage so I am not sure what put it in the yard.

just a guess but...

Pops drove the car and got too old to drive/took away keys/going into rest home/passed away
Kids too busy with their own lives to mess with the stinky old MB

They call 1-800-donate-cars/kidney cars/etc

pristine car ends up in the yards a few weeks later

Sad but probably true

To be sure go back and grab as much as you can from that car before it's crushed or destroyed by yard monkeys.

Other than the Engine and Transmission I got the environmental controls which fixed my issues in my car.....

There was little else I could use in my wagon. I did help a couple of other people get a few parts for their cars.

I am very happy to have a backup engine. I was planning to build an engine for my '68 Mustang this winter, but now I will be going through this OM603 instead.

axles... brakes, springs, control arms, subframe parts, differential, driveshaft... the list goes on.
if it was maintained on schedule, it will have a LOT of new stuff you can use in your wagon.

The brake components were shot or picked over.
I have considered some of the suspension components but I was not 100% sure the sedan and wagon were that interchangeable. I am also broke now since I also pulled a lot of parts for my gas 90 300TE.

Which pnp was this? Wondering if it's anywhere near close enough for me to go see what I might be able to use for my car...

I think I did. I grabbed as much of the wiring as I could.

This is my first Diesel engine pull, so I was not 100% sure of what I was supposed to get......
