W123 SLS High Pressure Hose

I know this has probably already been asked but, has anyone found a pre-made high pressure hose for the SLS system on the W123? I saw several threads mentioning the purchase of a new gates hose and re-using the ends. I'd really like to find an off-the-shelf replacement if possible.

Thanks in advance!

I'm a moron

Did some more searching and from what I can tell, they no longer make them. Found the replacement hose at****************. So off to the races again I guess. Part of me just wants to buy the SLS delete kit and call it a day.

why do you prefer to replace the entire hose, vs just rebuilding it with FAR superior hose?

Takes maybe 10 minutes longer to rebuild the hose than replace it. Why would you want to replace it?

I mean, MB decided to give us hose with rebuild-able ends... why not use them?

Saw some replies from people saying it was a PITA to re-use the ends. Guess I'm just getting lazy. I ordered the replacement hose so should have the SLS back in working order when it arrives. Only problem....my passenger side shock is leaking. As soon as that finally craps the bed I'm going to seriously consider getting rid of SLS due to the cost. I saw the replacement shocks are roughly the cost per shock that the entire delete kit costs.

So the SLS conversion kit is not satisfactory? If not, why?

Lots of posts on the topic here in a variety of threads. Lance (Forced Induction) was the first to try it and report about it approximately 10 years ago.

admittedly, I'm amazingly skilled and incredibly intelligent... still, the average caveman can unscrew fittings and screw them back into the new hose... all that's needed is a pair of pliers (a pipe wrench works better, a vice better still) and a 13mm box end wrench.
really, it's super easy.
best to take apart the hose first, and have the NAPA store cut it to slightly longer length for you, then you just reassemble.
easy.

the stock SLS system works so amazingly well, removing that and installing stiff springs is only satisfactory if you never use the wagon as intended... cargo...
the only thing that really ever causes issues on the 123 system is the accumulators, and they are simple to replace, and not that expensive.

High pressure and lowpressure hoses replaced!! No leaks thus far. Now time to tackle my leaky engine. Oh it would be nirvana to not leak any fluids.....

I was skeptical about the SLS being worth it, but I'd be very reluctant to delete it now. It's amazing to put a full load in and have the car ride the same as it does when empty. Most cars I've had would wallow and bottom out with a full load. Friends who have ridden in my TD have commented on how nicely it rides.

I *might* go for a delete kit if the alternative were scrapping the car, e.g. if the pump failed and I was looking at $900 for a replacement. But the pumps rarely fail unless badly abused. I just resealed mine last year, and in spite of the previous owner letting it run dry it had no scoring in the piston bores. Must have been just enough fluid trapped in the system to protect it.

vstech, I remember a post you wrote regarding the proper psi rating for the hose. Do you remember what that was? If I remember correctly, you had a few fail before finding the proper rated hose.

There has been a kit on the market for the last 4 years. This kit combines heavy duty coil springs, conventional shocks and a block off plate for those who want a simpler design or where it is not economical to repair their sls system. This kit works great and many many customers worldwide back its performance up.

I just posted this kit in CL Thread.

Mercedes 1978-1985 300td Rear Spring Conversion Kit

Mercedes 1978-1985 300td Rear Spring Conversion Kit - $200 (albany / el cerrito)

I had a bouncy bouncy problem with my W123 300td wagon and ordered a spring conversion kit to replace the self leveling suspension before realizing my problem was a simple fix.
Kit was never removed from shipping box and contains two coil springs and Gabriel Ultra shocks.
Price: $200. Original cost was $325.
Info here on kit: http://www.slsconversion.com
If interested, respond to email or phone Gus at 510-527-7300. I'm located on Stockton Ave. in El Cerrito.

Here's a blurb from the website:
Finally, you have found it! An answer to repair & fix that sagging & leaking rear end on your W123 300TD Wagon.
Replace the overcomplicated, leaky and expensive Self Leveling Suspension "SLS" system on your 1978-1985 Mercedes 300TD Wagon with this maintenance free and conventional coil spring setup. Don't waste your time with incorrect Sedan springs that will cause your wagon to bottom out and ride terribly.

These high quality, heavy duty conventional coil springs will allow you remove your SLS system and retain stock ride height, handling and heavy duty load rating from the factory. NO MODIFICATION REQUIRED, 100% BOLT ON SYSTEM. Works great for 300TD owners who haul lots of people, gear, or have large capacity veggie oil tanks but are tired of their wagon bottoming out!

Purchase the complete kit with Sensen Brand Shocks (made with Japanese Nok Seals, used by many Euro OE Companies) or purchase your own Bilstein shocks from your favorite parts retailer for a w123 300D sedan (part number provided for this option).

The SLS pump and hoses are removed from the engine which decreases vehicle weight, provides more engine compartment space and makes the installation easier. The block off removal plate includes one 1/4" thick MADE IN THE USA aluminum plate, 4 bolts, and a tube of silicone.

Replacing just the SLS struts for the SLS system costs over $750 plus labor. Replacing the entire system and run $2000 or more plus labor. The SLS system is a great concept but is very costly and has many components that leak and fail over time.

My spring conversion has been reviewed on forums such as SuperTurboDiesel.com, Peachparts.com, Benzworld.org with many happy customers!
