I put filtered veggie oil right in the crank case.

Just kidding. Rotella 15w40. I buy in 5 gallon buckets.

One thing to remember. On a 4000 mile winter trip through Utah and Colorado and the midwest, oh boy did I wish I'd put in a winter oil. Living in LA that completely slipped my mind during trip prep.

What posessed you go and start a new oil thread, btw? Whoa there are a LOT of these smiley things.

Wallyworld cheap universal oil right now. It has the right compression ignition ratings, it's 15w40, it's CHEAP. First run on this engine, had no clue if the motor was going to leak or burn gallons of oil for every fuel fill up, I went with cheap. Now that I know it doesn't, next oil change will be whatever serious 15w40 is least expensive. Rotella, Delo, Delvac, I'm not picky.

All of my diesels get synth oil, except the generator which has rotella 15w40. The MB, F350, and Jetta get M1 5w40. The Passat just got LiquiMoly 5w30. Once it's out of warranty I'll switch to the DPF safe Mobil 5w40 product.
