engine swap i'd like: Subaru Diesel in my Merc

Boxeer - Subaru Diesel Engines

here's the boxer diesel at play on Pike's Peak challenge: 22B Replica Diesel is Mixed-Up Madness - Subiesport TV

45mpg, 200 horsepower, much more torque ;-)

just under $5k for a low hours engine
just under $8k for a zero hours engine

... and then there are the extra goodies

one can dream

Subaru diesel!

Did these make it to market in the USA yet? They look fantastic, and might be a nice replacement for my aging Passat TDI. They there is the high mileage Kia Rio Diesel. That would be a great daily hack.......why can't we have them like the rest of the planet?

I think you'd have trouble retrofitting that into a benz.

Where would you get Pats for it?

With the stock Mercedes you can get Parts from a Junk Yard or buy a cheap Parts Car.

You'd have to reshape the cradle aft of the rear axle and add a cooling system. Can't be more difficult than a 617 powered Studebaker Coupe Express

any subaru boxer engine is really wide, those cars frame rails are the widest of any regular car you see. Take a look at one without an engine.

the Subaru Diesel vendor in the USA is in Tennessee ... a couple hundred miles away.
My original engined 1979 300SD is just getting broken in with 133k ... who knows, after a 1 million miles, I'll be ready.
