Diagnosing an oil leak 1992 300D

Clackity Clacked up to Boone yesterday to check out a 1992 300d for Centroid1. Check out the leak in these shots and let us know if this is head gasket time, or just average seepage.

There is an O ring on the stop lever that might be the leak shown in the circle.

There is a formed seal that goes on the bottom of the pump that might be the leak shown in the rectangle.

You have oil on the valve cover that seems to be linked to the oil on the side of the head. This could be coming from the vent (black hose going into the top of the valve cover) or leaking from the air intake tube going over the valve cover.

If its the air intake then the engine has more oil blow by than even mine . Have you removed the oil fill cap with the engine running to check blow by?

No, the sales guy was hovering over me while I took those shots. I have enough ADD as it is. I opened the hood and the guy goes "yup, engines under the hood".

Sounds like you should ask the salesman to open it for you

My 350SDL had every screw loose on the side of the IP when I bought it. Tightened 'em up, never another issue (well maybe a tiny bit from the "O" ring on the stop lever).

Can't see from the pics if the injector return lines were replaced...notorious leakers.

X2 on the oil leak...it seems up high (and running downward), so the breather(?) and/or valve cover gasket(?)

Looks like no one was caring for the car for a while. Did you check the dipstick to see if anyone cared enough to replace the leaking oil?

FWIW, why are you talking with a dealer (even for someone else)? Do they have service records with the car? Man I hate dealers.....
