Well best of luck with it - at least we know that it can be done that way (without the original bling trim <= I mean => with that beading). It has also been shown on BW so it must be true!

Despite years of experience, these guys just don't know how to install a gasket type windshield is the problem. Ive given up on this branch of safelite for this. I don't want to have guys appear here that don't have any idea on how to install this trim properly, and don't know/care what the factory method is because they have been installing glue in windshields for years.

The worst part is no other windshield people are interested in correcting the problem for me, all saying (rightly I think) that there is definitely a chance they could break an aftermarket replacement windshield trying to remove it again, and I should just buy a new one from them.

The guy Ive used a number of times won't touch it because I think he's insulted I didn't wait for him to order one in (needing to pass inspection before the time limit)

Did you show the installer the FSM? These aluminum trims ( unlike flexible rubber trims) cannot be installed afterwards, the force required to push the aluminum trims in will bend them.

I would suggest going to the person in charge of that franchise and show them the FSM procedure and demand a refund, then do it yourself. if that doesn't work go to corporate. Try to get them to put the FSM procedure into their system. They are botching too many of these jobs sending them to an early grave.

This is my post on doing the rear defroster glass. The procedure is practically the same for the windshield.

Installing back glass (with defroster), help needed
