How do I find my engine number?

Yesterday I asked if I need a gasket between my intake manifold and head. Looking around the Pelican Parts catalog, I found the answer is yes. But they have two styles - one for engine numbers up to 006209 and one for 006210 and up. Where do I find my number?

Thanks,

Yes engine number would be listed on the EPC through the VIN. But if you don't have the original motor, than you would have to look somewhere on the block and that location will depend on what Model car, Engine type and possible year you have... Which the OP didn't say.

All the MB engine numbers I have seen are stamped on the left hand side of the block next to the head gasket joint.

(Left hand side of the car = when sitting in the car looking forward - that left)

Thanks to all who responded - the car is a '97 E300, non-turbo. VIN WDBJF20F5VA355796. I'll look on the left side too today. I can't get the EPC because I'm using a mac.

Unless it's a reman engine, in which case it's on a tag riveted to the bellhousing.
