I bought a house where a guy ran a typewriter repair business out of the attic. He must have had 20 different typewriters and misc manual calculators. Some working, some in a state of repair. He had typewriters from the 1930s to the 1970s.

One thing I learned is that typewriters are worthless. I tried selling some of them and not a single one would bring more than $30. I don't know why, but there is little market for them. People are still infatuated with computers to the point where vintage typewriters are not of interest.

Yep, some of the really early ones are valuable and the colorful ones from the 60s and 70s have value.....but all the rest nadda....the 30s typewriters are only valued for their keys that people use to make jewelry.... Calculators have no value but the nixie tube ones are pretty cool in my eye..

What did you do with them?

The portable Royals from the '30s with the glass-covered keys, black lacquer paint, and Touch Control are actually worth something in the $150-250 range when in good condition (price depends on condition and amount of accessories -- manual, carrying case, etc.). I have one that needs mild/medium duty restoration that I bought for $5 last winter... it sits while I work on my 300SD .

I have this Corona Standard that I saved. I have the box for it as well. I think it was made in 1944 if I remember correctly. I'm not sure what happened to the rest. I know I gave one to a buddy of mine. The rest might still be up there in the attic. Some worked, some didn't. My mom may have gotten rid of them but I doubt it. Probably still up there. This is at the house I have in Haverhill.
