The ultimate insult to my 240 and I

Talk about the ultimate insult: I was driving my 240 4 speed today to work, when I noticed a VW bus behind me at a stop light (I am in the right lane of a 4 lane road). The road has a slight incline for the next 1/2 mile. The light turns green and I accelerate and get into second gear, and just then the VW bus changes lanes and passes me! Can you imagine how insulted I was!

I once saw a VW Bus with a hand painted sign on the back "40 hp at work, please just pass me."

I've also seen more than one VW Bus with a Subaru motor swapped into it.

Hi there, I am passed by various VWs and Toyota mini-cars. No biggie. It's highly likely that they will be crushed and recycled several years before my 240D gives up the ghost.

I just smile, lean back and listen to some tunes.

Yes I understand that the ability to swap a Subaru boxer engine into the MicroBus has become quite popular. I'd like to put a TDI engine in myself.

However, I'm not sure I could live with the frailty of the VW Microbus in any crash scenario.

I recently passed on a 617A crammed into a Toyota 4Runner. It was pretty sweet, but I'd really hate get in an accident in the 4Runner. It was a 1990 model, and they have horrible crash ratings. Even though my 240D has no crash rating, I believe that it is likely to be 4-5 stars based on the way it is built.

I have seen an air cooled split window bus (that was driven to the track) run mid 12's in the 1/4 mile.

That is so true....I say same thing, every time I get the slow look....in my head I say....yep I like to see that piece of crap in 34 years!

I also love it when I go down dirt or grave roads.....these people in these new cars so low to the ground, going ever so slowly...bouncing around in the car like tennis shoes in the drier.....and here I come.....zooming down not bother by the rough road....

Don't feel too bad. I once had a Toyota truck with oversize tires that, while struggling to maintain 55 uphill on the highway, was passed by a motorhome towing a Volkswagen. So if you use that as your performance standard you're not doing too badly.

4ac Toyota AE86 in flat open roads of eastern Oregon, get annoying driver i passed earlier, wanting to pass in passing lane, so I, ahead of time, accelerate, WOT, to keep my lead. Imagine my surprise when this HONDA ELEMENT passes me, very easily, while the two attractive female occupants cover their mouths laughing while doing so. (4AGE swap happened next month!)

I have two geo metro convertibles, I think they were 36hp new, both are closing on 200k miles so hp is less. 5 speeds. The turbo 617 seems powerful compared to those, even with the huge weight difference.

Of course then I hop on the 640lb 160hp motorcycle and grin from ear to ear.....
