1975 300D Look Like a Good Deal?

Thinking of scooping this up next weekend and wanted to get some opinions from the more educated Benz folks before taking the plunge. It's 2 minutes from my house so I will taking a gander at it today. Let me know your thoughts. :D |
if as described, wait until next weekend and it will be gone. take $1000 cash and be able to take it.

Agreed with the exception of rust. If some can be seen there's probably more. Pull up the carpets and remove the back seat. Get under it and poke around with a screw driver. If decent probably a good buy.

If in decent shape, I plan to at least leave the guy a 25-50% deposit. Just hoping this rain lets up so I can go kick some tires.

How does he know it will drive 1000 miles? From looking at it, I'd say it could only make it 823 miles.
Seriously, it looks like it will need a lot of body work. |
I think unless it runs and drives like a new car $1000 is a bit too much to pay. I bought a really nice running 76 300D for $600 and used the motor and tranny in my 74 240d that the lovely #3 daughter filled with gasoline and drove a hundred miles in. Course that was fifteen years ago I suppose if that matters.

I was going to say, it was worth the price....with the nice exterior color....then I seen the two brown doors.....to much money in my eye....both doors would have to be removed....stripped and hopefully color matched.....and sure just needs a valve adjustment and let me guess....the ac just needs a charge.....no photos of the interior.....if that is trashed....more money out of pocket....as it sits maybe 500$....after an inspection maybe 800$.....wouldn't go over a grand though....

I ended up passing on the car. A friend ended up getting it for $700. Its gonna need floor pans so, looks like my welder will get some use with the car. It did drive like a dream though.

Take lots of pictures. We always enjoy a good repair story!

I love how people always misrepresent. This may be nice 1984 mercedes 300d turbo, 102K MILES one owner until may 13--PRISTINE but per the seller:
"This car has not been freshly detailed, it has always been kept in this tip top of shape Recent work i have done in last 30 days, OEM--> Steering box, ball joints, steering stabilizer shock, 4 high end touring tires, front end alignment, oil filter, fuel filters, air filter, front rotors/pads, back pads, compressor/dryer" I've never had steering box, ball joints, tires, AC compressor fail at the same time on any car that I had MAINTAINED for a long time in pristine condition - especially on a MBZ. What else is he lying about? |
Not even worth half that on a good day.
|
I had a 75 300D and miss it every day, but I put a TON of work into it. Unless you enjoy doing lots of body work it's not worth more than a few hundred.
