83 300SD accelerator pedal stinking

Any 1 experience sticking accelerator pedal? The accelerator pedal stops going down until I push very hard to get past sticking point.

Thanks

Two possiblities

1. Lubricate throttle linkage joints. Pop ball joints apart with a large flat screwdriver, clean and lubricate using almost any oil. Do it at least once per year.

2. Look at rubber fixture at firewall where the throttle rod passes through. Often deteriorates and must be replsced if it is.

Also there is a rubber roller inside a track housing on top of the valve cover. it looks like a T, If that rubber roller has worn out (which it has) it won't have enough girth to move out of the top of the T without alot of pushing. After lubricating all the ball joints, swapping throttle return springs, I got no improvement. It was only after I adjusted the little T Track so that the roller lived in the opening of the bottom of the T, that I got any improvement. A better solution is to simply buy a new roller and install it.

Ok, so it looks more like a P than a T...still...this is the issue

The pedal itself on an SD can fail. It's not uncommon. Mine was doing exactly what you describe when it was failing. New pedals are not that expensive. I'd remove the pedal (couple of screws in the floor) and drive with just the metal rod until the new pedal arrives if that is the problem.

New pedal smells better too.

The attachment point to the rod. I can't remember exactly how it attaches but it's prone to failure.

As to the sticking problem, I can relate, it happened to me and all I had to do, IIRC, was to take it off and put it back on... As to the stinking problem, as the title of the post suggests, a little febreeze could work...
