Absolutley...
Well as the story goes, (Just for a little background on the car), I found this car a couple years ago sitting in the middle of a field, on the other side of town. According to the owner, he had just put it there not too long before I stopped by. Well, then he wanted $5000 for the car, and my mentality at the time was that I wasn't going to spend 5 grand on a 20 year old car. Anyways, I started looking for a parts car to replace a bunch of things on my 300D, and I just thought why don't I call him to see what he wants for it, he told me to come pick it up if I want it. So I did, and now I am in the process of cleaning out the fuel tank of all the old fuel and varnish left behind.... I'm thinking now that this should be in a different post... :-) I'll post a picture in the post that shows everyones' Mercedes. |

Bingo
It turns out that one of my glow plugs a a small short that must have burnt out the tip of one of the other plugs.
Changed them and the car started beautifully MMMMM. I could hardly believe my right foot. I never did find the relay However, I am "Spring fever" jumping for joy, I'd missed the chatter. However, again, I saw a 1980 wagon for sale with a nice 280 gas in it, mmm, the body is rough but the engine quite nice, $800, worth a transplant? after all the trouble with this car? Thanks to all. P.S. Solex rule, as does the Jag V12 |

Right on!
You could have a cool car with this engine combo, and you wouldnm't have to smog it!

Hate to pop your bubble but the 280 was only carburated for a couple years -- all E variants are fuel injected (post 1976, I think).
You get about 15% better power and milage with the fuel injection, and it is foolproof (K-Jetronic) -- almost the only thing I've ever seen go bad on the old fully mechanical ones is injectors, and they only cost about $15. Peter
