As far as rubber parts go, I normally try to get them from Mercedes or one of the OEM suppliers like TRW, Lemforder or even Febi/Bilstein.

I have everybody beat!! I think I last put new hangers on in July after finishing my trans swap, and one gave out last weekend. I guess I should probably go pick up a new one....
I'm also running sans mufflers, so my exhaust is even lighter than normal!!

Has anyone here sub'ed in the resonator hangers? They're way beefier. Also, I've read somewhere on the web about poly exhaust hangers for corvettes, which might just last forever.

I can understand how mistakes happen and if they fixed it for me, no problem.....but that's not what they did. I felt like they actively tried to avoid dealing with me, which seemed odd to me because with the prices they offer on their parts... I can't understand why they would want to be operating their buisness that way. With that low of prices it would seem to make sense that they WOULD want to keep customers, for volume of sales. The fact that they only shipped 9 of 10 pces and they were used and still had someones dirty oil in them did it in for me. They may be good down there, but they are not up here. Avoid them if you need parts in Canada. If you need parts in Canada, I found a guy that is smaller and although I am not sure, he seems to be a one man show. He bends over backwards for his customer and has just as good a prices, shipping time the same (great)... (only pennies more) and you don't have to stand for this kind of treatment. I'll pay a little more to not be a victim of these scammers. I hear you, as far as rubber parts go, I have been reading about the various rubber parts that are of really poor quality. Luckily, the only rubber parts I have got are the exhaust hangers...nothing major like suspension parts, yet. I would be furious to get what some people are reporting. IMO, a department of government should step in and do something about this phenom. This is a matter of publlic safety to recieve suspension parts that are flawed....not just for the guy driving the car they are installed on, but for everyone else on the road...but saddly it is going to take a tradgedy before things change in that regard. (idea for another posting) We are reactive to safety hazards, not proactive....which is dumb because they don't teach us that way, we know better....so what happenes in that gap? It all comes down to money. Money is the limiting factor for safety. If it costs too much to make it safe, well don't worry about it...good enough, but if it is cheap, well then we will change it to make it appear that we are working towards a safer facad. |

Just buy a good one to start with.
I bought a generic hanger at a local hardware store. Spent ages struggling to get it on (pushed the exhaust up with a jack and it finally went on). Later that day I drove the car into a little local town and once there, noticed the muffler hanging way down again. The snapped hanger was still stuck to the upper support. It lasted somewhere less than eight miles/five hours.
I went into the hardware store, dropped it on the counter, looked the guy in the face and said, "Really?" and walked out. Never went there again, that's for sure. It makes me wonder if Uro makes muffler hangers. Can you imagine how bad they'd be? |

The used donuts I've grabbed as spares from Pick-N-Pull are often better quality than some new aftermarket ones! So far, the best new ones I've had, came from a Mercedes dealer. Happy Motoring, Mark

I have had similar poor experience with Auto Parts Way. I ordered a muffler from them plus some o-ring hangers and new nuts for the front to mid pipe flange. They charged me for all three and then said they had been delivered. I hadn't received anything. Then my wife collected mail, and there was this little package containing the nuts and the hangers. No muffler despite their tracking saying it had been delivered. Took me several calls and emails before they admitted the muffler had never been shipped - said they found the one they had in stock was damaged so they didn't send it. But that didn't stop them charging me for it and claiming it had been delivered! Problem we have in Canada, is that there are no reliable domestic on-line parts stores. If you know of any, please let me know! Of the US vendors, only Rock has reliable shipping to Canada with all brokerage and duties pre-paid. I got the mid pipe & muffler from them. FCP are good, but don't prepay brokerage/duty. I only use them for small orders because those come in duty free. Other US vendors either don't ship here or ones like AA have crazy shipping charges.

I see those hangers even at Canadian tire. I think I will pick up a set at the dealer and keep the CRP as spares.

Strange. I only use my bare hands to install them. I also use genuine Mercedes and the ones on my car have lasted about 10 years so far with no cracking. However, I had some Chinese-made ones that only lasted about a month in rainy Washington state before they crumbled.

There is no way those rings could be put on my new muffler by hand. I could not get new rings on even with tools. I ended up putting the 22 yrs old hangers back because they could be stretched more easily.
Part of the problem, could be the muffler. It is an ANSA but I discovered that ANSA is not what it used to be. The muffler and pipes I received were made by a company in UK who apparently bought the facility where ANSA had previously been made. The mid pipe flange was not welded on correctly either.

Post #16 does have a steel bicycle type chain inside, was first made for early sl models.
A bit harder to install, very strong not going to stretch as much. |

Those reinforced hangers are listed as a part for the 560sl. The older sl part is the o-ring. Some here have used those on w123s. But I dont think even Hercules would be able to get them on my 85 300D with new muffler

Jack or better yet tranny jack under the muffler is good advice. Semi tight coat hanger as reinforcement also good advice. I keep some hose clamps around just in case. Super easy to jack up the muffler, slip on a big hose clamp and tighten it to bring the mounting hooks together. I also use the I think they’re w126 mounts. Might want to research it. They’re not the rubber donuts - they’re cable reinforced mounts by CRP. Still cracking and degrading, but might be better than what’s w123 specific.
Nothin like being late to work because your muffler literally fell off! |

I just installed a compete Ansa exhaust on my 83 300D tonight, using the chain reinforced exhaust hangers mentioned in post 16. I put the rearmost two on before marrying the center and rear exhaust section, then wiggled the front two on with a 10” pry bar.
No fitment issues with my exhaust. Two of the sections came from eBay and one from Rock Auto. A second person and a long pry bar to space the flexible part of the down pipe away from the starter motor were helpful to have.
