When you hear your son playing with his toy cars and he's sending the rollback to pick up the Mercedes... again.

...when someone is tailgating you in your wife's car and you realize with disappointment that you can't give the offender the smokescreen treatment.

when on craigslist, you cannot resist putting in a search for 'mercedes diesel', just in case

you have multiple soda bottles in your trunk with your own concoction of :

-2 stroke oil
-seafoam/MMO
-diesel kleen

you empty one into your tank at every fill up.

you love tailgaters who just beg for a smokescreen.
moreover, you tell your kids....'hey kids, watch this!' before you floor it.

having a diesel makes me feel immune to the siren's song of car commercials because I know I already have the pinnacle of the car world. anything they say is just fluff.

Or I tell the guy it might be the wrong stuff Iam putting in it, but has run pretty well on it for over 400K miles.

I have faced that too many times on my E300D (specially when it goes stealth quiet, new hood pad and with clean injectors along new belt tensioner assembly)

One guy in a scrap metal pickup also inserted the "dumba$$" word into his vocabulary - and it was returned with a similar one with a one finger salute

A co-worker (with nice hair the color of the sun and of female gender) who drives a Toy sequoia asked that can she get great MPG too if she filled it up with diesel fuel - the drivers license test should also test IQ

One pump turned off the dispenser (it was raining tigers and wolves - I can handle cats n dogs but tigers n wolf rain is when it seems that the rain drops have hydraulic force too) - I had to go across the pour and get it running again. Told him to mind his own business I know what fuel my car takes.

I once gave my diesel to a valet (fancy conf at a fancy hotel in another city), the car comes back with a very cold rattley engine sound (started without glow assist) - I asked him if he knew that he was supposed to WAIT for the entire 4 seconds the glow lamp burns bright then start it - ITS A DIESEL. grrrr

BEST ONE

You know you drive a MB diesel when you can give a jump start to a 7.3 Ford

When you can barely hear the voice at the drive-through asking you to shut off your engine, TO THE CAR IN FRONT OF YOU!

When you can eat your entire meal after leaving the drive-through, in the parking lot exit, because your not sure if "you can fit" in that hole in traffic.

When all the drums of diesel at your work are mysteriously getting lighter.....

Diesel evaporates quickly ya know!

ya ya, it does - I was at a jobsite once in my E300D and as a favor the big chief there gifted me 2x55 gallon diesel fuel drums (it was citgo product and had a yellow color) just because I showed up after hours, in the mid of farmland to fix up their network.

I had to get a truck out there to get em. My neighbors were eyeing me funny when I was muscling barrels into the backyard.

I do that too but also search:

Mercedes 240D
Mercedes 300D
Mercedes 300CD
Mercedes 300SD
Mercedes Tools (That's how I found my Spring Compressor.......new and for $75)

Today I was at the Mall and saw a 240D with a for sale sign, so had to go back through the parking lot and take a look. WOW, think it is a 80 240D 194K, looked to have always sat in a garage. crack free dash, seats that looked new and the cloth trim on the door jambs was not worn or torn. hardly a door ding, and no rust. under side was....clean and the boots (probably original) with slight cracks, and a 4-spd manual.

There I was cranking my neck around, and going out of my way to check out another 123. OH... and where I parked, was an old Hippy in his 300TD, beat to heck, with his save the world etc... bumper stickers.

edit:
Knew I had seen this car on CL here in Santa Cruz.

You hit this forum anywhere from twice a week to several times a day, depending on the state of your rides.
