This is true! For me I visit more when there isn't anything wrong with the 300D. Need to do something with all that spare time

...you're flooring your car to try to keep up with traffic on the freeway, but it looks like you're driving in reverse.

...you're confident that almost no one could simply drive your car away if they wanted to steal it without killing the battery and simply giving up (this is very true for the 220D.)

...when you pass a Napa, you habitually buy fuel filters, diesel purge and a mix of O-rings.

...when, in downtown Philadelphia, the guy sees me roll up in my diesel Benz and just turns the bio pump on instead of running my card or making me prepay like everyone else. <---this happened today!

...your car turns heads... of old cab drivers.

...you're always looking for a spare diesel Mercedes.
or
...your backup to your car that has been known to get well over a million miles is one that is known to get well over half a million miles.

...you carry most, if not all tools necessary to do every single task that could be done on the car short of pulling the engine. And not because you wouldn't but because an engine hoist simply won't fit in a sedan or wagon (but they WILL fit in a van!)

Busted .

For those of you who don't know this shortcut: you can separate search terms with "lines" (I don't know the actual name) such that any one of the terms triggers a result, like so:

240D|300D|300CD|300TD|300SDL|350SDL|350SD|240TD|300GD|E300D|E 300D|Mercedes Diesel|300DT|300CDT|300TDT|Mercedes 240|Mercedes 300

Edit: Apparently those are called "pipes". And apparently, "piping to grep" is some sort of manly skill that I can't do, probably because it is a manly skill -- can't have me cheapening it! Like George Burns said: "I would've hit her, but a man can't hit woman. And if a man can't do it, what chance have I got!?".

Sounds like you need another car to fill that time!

You turn off the AC to get that extra burst of speed.

You're always looking forward to the next payday because it's already been earmarked for a new shipment of parts.

You have no real idea how many miles the car has on it. So, you usually guestimate usually upwards.

You wonder how that dent got in the top middle of your hood - son sitting on car.

Your mechanic complains that he can't get withing 5 yards of your car without getting greasy.

-You see oil drums at the mechanincs and wonder if you can have the old oil

-How about bugging every dodge truck shop in town to see if they have any holset takeoffs

-Or stopping other random people asking them how many miles they have?

...your lady friend/s will absolutely not drive the car in fear of getting greasy.

...your lady friend/s think the engine is very sick when they are riding in the passenger seat.

Y'all are making me feel out of place, now. I don't carry tools beyond the original Mercedes tool kit. I don't carry spare fluids, because the car uses none. I don't have the tow truck on speed dial because it never needs to be towed. I have zero problems surgically inserting myself in to tight traffic. I don't live in fear of being passed by an air-cooled VW. I am usually doing five over the speed limit, and no one tailgates me, but if they did, my car wouldn't smoke them out with full throttle. No one ever tells me I need to turn off my engine so they can hear me in drive-through.

I am either doing something very wrong, or very right, but I can't tell which.

Judging by your signature vehicle, it seems you are doing something right.

I guess so. I trust it like I would any new car... Maybe a little more, since I know exactly what's going on beneath all the greasy steel.

I know that in UNIX, and to a lesser extent DOS, the "|" character is called a pipe. It's used to connect the STDOUT of a standard program to the STDIN of a standard program. Otherwise the STDIN is the keyboard and the STDOUT is the terminal or screen.

I'm not sure if they operate in a similar manner in a string of text in a search field. Usually, they use concatenation in text strings or boolean operators.

Sorry, I digress.

How bout that grease eh?

When on craigslist, you also search for mercades, mercede, deesel, deisel, diesal, and dezel just to cover all the bases. You've even searched for "gelled" in winter to see what shows up.

Your family has given you fuel filters as a gift. They even know which brand and part number you prefer.

Your young son asks you to buy the Mercedes Power Wheel toy at the store, and you realize you've paid less for the real thing.

Many of these experiences are the result of buying rough, cheap cars then trying to keep them on the road. In my case I only had one towed home once when the engine blew. Unfortunately my son's toy Benz seems to break frequently so I wonder what he thought of the old one. Starting with a better vehicle should result in a very different experience. Of course if you feel you're missing out, I'm sure someone here could help.

Yes. Because you can "pipe" the output intended for one device to the input of a different device or program. However, as used in the Craigslist search it indicates OR, probably from the logical operator "OR" as found in C.
