W123 clutch engages close to floor

I have seen numerous threads on this problem, one I thought had the solution....

One poster noted two different length rods to operate the clutch master. There was a photo of the two different rods side by side. He said one is 6mm longer, one was early and one was later production. Some master cylinders come with replacement rods these days. Not a part that would wear out, so why the rod included in the kit?

After careful bleeding I'm sure that is not the problem in my vehicle... and... noting two different types of bell housings ... one bolts on to the gear box, one is an integral casting ie the bell housing is the same casting as the gear box.

My 1978 240D clutch operates just fine, it has the bolt on bell housing.

My 1984 300TD with the later (integral bell housing) manual transmission has the "low clutch" problem.

Has anyone gotten to the bottom of this issue.

Any part numbers for the different rods?

Thanks in advance if you do have insight....
