I've had great experiences at our PnP. It's a racially diverse crowd but we all seem to get along. I do not arrive encrusted in filth but in cleanish work clothes, usually jeans and a T-shirt. Never an issue. I don't "pack heat" nor do I own such equipment. Again, never an issue.
I'm SCRUPULOUS in my dealing with them. I don't walk out with a nut or a bolt that I don't show them. The employees are getting to know me and often will wave off small items if I'm buying a big thing. I treat them with respect and I get respect in return. Remember that taking stuff you haven't paid for is stealing. If you can look yourself in the mirror after that, even if it's small stuff - well, what kind of a man ARE you? Good luck on this outing. Regarding the stealing comments....
Don't you all think this corporation is stealing from the public, when they offer you 200$ for a perfectly running car? That they then chop up and quadruple their investment? Pay their employees minimum wage, hire illegal immigrants to keep from paying full wage to Americans....and benefits? Think of robin hood, stealing from the greedy to feed the poor...... I have even heard comments where people will not even pick up change they find in cars in the yard..... Granted I haven't ever tried to stuff an injection pump or head in my pants, but if I am removing a part....I put loose nuts n bolts in my pockets and other things that will normally end up in the gravel.... I see no issues in stealing, just don't steal from a mom and pop business or independent person, these people are trying just as hard as you to get by... We would have people steal from our thrift store, that was a non profit....that was ran to help the homeless population and all these people would have to do is ask if they need clothing.....but they instead stole stuff.....now this is stealing in my book....

Ours is somewhere in between the above two described....lol. But the amount of quality cars there was baffling! I returned to my new spare parts Land Rover that is in everyway (externally), in better condition than mine! Today was just for some exhaust hangers. thought about pocketing them, since i have been burned by them before, and when i REALLY needed the parts, and couldnt have NOT paid what they wanted,(think they can smell the "urgency" on you, and exploit it as much as possible!)but i decided to pay for them, the one guy wanted $20 for the three of them. I remarked that if i were a mechanic charging to do this work i would only charge $.50 for parts, and $20 for labor! Think that broke the tension alittle, other guy said just give them $5 bucks.
Ok, so i got my parts, got alittle dirty, and left with a smile on my face. Now, look at these beauties!

Ok, the Continental made me choke, like?!! Really?! Why isnt this in someones garage?
The second pic is the interior of a Merkur XR4TI. Rarer than nice. The Celica....pictures really dont do it justice. The brushed alum/stainless? Was mint. The 280z, I dunno. It probably deserves to be on the road though.

It's a business, one that save us all a bunch of money. If oyu needed any of those parts from the dealer or even Napa it would be 3x-10x more expensive. Stealing from the public? Come on. If you're a non-mechanic, and you have a dead car taking up space that you can't get trade in value on what do you do-deal with random weirdos on CL or call up the yard that will come pick it up for you no hassle AND pay you? Easy way to get rid of a car, AND it benefits other people with the same model and a small budget looking for parts.

Ever wonder why your local supermarket won't sell day old bread anymore? Even wonder what happens with the stuff at the end of the day from sandwich shops and star bucks? Go head to the dumpster and see..... Its a for profit world, ran by corporate greed.......

Its not geedy, everything they don't sell and toss, they lost money on. Greed would be keeping moldy stuff on the shelf until it sold, regardless of foodborn illness risks. Stuff that's sitting out in a case goes bad pretty darn fast. Lots of Mom and pop operations toss everything end of the day too, pretty standard practice. Primary reason is food borne illness risks, secondary is maintaining a reputation for fresh items and keeping customers coming in the door

I don't exactly go there in a suit and tie... I wear my car repair clothes and they are usually pretty nasty. Sometimes I put an old towel over the seat to keep it clean.

Got it!
Well, I finally went to Dallas West Pick N Pull. No problems with anyone. In fact, I met another MB owner looking for parts for a project. About the only person who acted a little indifferent, was the check out guy. Since it was 5pm when I checked out, he was probably ready to go home. On the way out, a couple of guys grabbed the assembly and helped me load it in the truck.
I found a 2.47 rear end with annular axles in an 85 500SEL. The removal went smooth with only the center mounting bolts being a challenge. After pulling the differential mount, I was able to pry the subframe assembly down and remove them. The axles appeared to be nice and tight but I'll definitely need to reboot them before installing them. So I guess the next step will be finding a source for them. Thanks for all the help! That's why I like this forum!
