Keep up the pics . Watching you from a caravan up the west coast of Scotland. Lovely weather here too for a change and it's Stag rutting season so the hills are alive.

I'll make sure I'm handy through Winston Salem. Do you need me to bring you a mono valve?

Also when will you be through here?

You take beautiful pictures... wish I could do so. If you're ever coming through MA or NH, let me know...! It would be nice to meet you.

Day 2: Albuquerque to Oklahoma City

Got bit of a late start this morning, but headed out for what is probably the most boring stretch of interstate around. After the mountains and deserts of California, the deserts and mountains of Arizona and the wonderful high plains of Arizona and New Mexico today was pretty much a just get there day. We had a very nice tail wind that should produce some remarkable mpg numbers - I'll know in the morning when I fill up.

This is a pretty typical view across New Mexico, Texas and Oklahoma.

Older Mercedes like the 123 and 107 are almost non-existent on the open road. I've seen two 107's (one on a trailer and the other driving around Phoenix) and one 123. The 123 was on this car carrier, three vehicles ahead of us as the entire freeway came to a stop for about 20 minutes. Never did find out what the problem was, but the drivers of cars around us were extremely friendly and were about to break out the grills and have a party if it had gone on much longer!

Another typical stretch of road across the western states.

Texas is always interesting. This was the first rest stop across the pan handle on the way toward Amarillo.

Amarillo is the home of the famous Cadillac Ranch. We didn't take the time this trip to see the installation, but have in the past. Well worth the trouble if you're ever in the area.

Finally got to Oklahoma and settled in for the night in Oklahoma City to rest up for the push to Nashville tomorrow. Hoping to meet up with Daw_Two in Memphis.

Druk - good to hear from you - enjoy your Caravan vacation in Scotland

Vstech - I'll ping you as soon as I safely arrive in Winston-Salem and coordinate our schedules. Maybe we can take a couple minutes and put a mighty vac on a few lines - it would be nice to find the vacuum leak. Thurs or Friday are probably going to be best on my end, probably mid-afternoon.

Thayer - thanks for the offer. My monovalve is fine, it's the connector that's the problem and my temp "fix" is holding.

Jooseppi - thanks

Nice pics keep em coming!

When taking apart mono valve connector, be sure key is off, otherwise you blow the PBU when you short the pins. I've done that twice, five years apart, and had to fix PBU twice.

Day 3: Oklahoma City to Jackson, TN

Got a late start this morning due to a stomach problem, but it was an absolutely beautiful day. Crossing from Oklahoma to Arkansas we made a quick stop at the welcome center for a free cup of coffee and quick stretch.

For a second I thought I was back in California when we passed this interesting conveyance. I thought about maybe making a sign for the 380 about being out of diesel and heading to North Carolina, but decided no one would believe it....

Well after two days and 4+ states worth of cloudless skies and treeless landscapes, we finally got both.

Crossing the Mississippi River is always a treat. This is the bridge into Memphis, TN.

Wow, I guess junk yards is big business here. This was a major billboard along I-40. It was all I could to to just keep going

Tried to meet up with Daw_Two in Memphis, but it just didn't work out. Getting started late made that impossible. Oh well, next time.

Tomorrow - Winston-Salem area

Here are some stats:

Miles so far: 1907
Oil added: 0
Mileage overall: 31.51 mpg

By leg
SAN-PHX 31.5 mpg
PHX-ABQ 29.9 mpg
ABQ-OKC 35.0 mpg
OKC-JAX 30.7 mpg

Rollguy - I really like that color too. It was a beautiful car.

funola - thanks for the tip

Those are some amazing MPG numbers. Also, I had to look back at the photos of my CD, as I thought the car on the carrier might have been mine once. However, it had blue plates, and mine had the white ones....Rich

The PHX-ABQ run was all uphill and/or cruising between 5 & 8 thousand ft on 2 lane back roads. The ABQ-OKC run was downhill and running with a very nice tailwind. I actually think my mileage may be down just a bit from last trip, but it will take a few more tanks to compare. I'm about due for a valve adjustment so that might be part of it.

Day 4: Jackson to Winston-Salem

Safely arrived at our destination for the next few days. A really beautiful drive over the Smokey Mountains.

The scenery was fabulous and the road amazing.

A little later the sun came out

At the rest stop in North Carolina

Again the car did really well, logging 33.7 mpg despite all the mountain driving. The legs on this car are amazing - 550 miles with 6.5 gallons still in the tank. (That's one of the side benefits of having a gas car converted to diesel)
