Rear ball joint? Get all the uprated rubber bits, the cost is not that much more. Drop the subframe to do the work, way easier.

I think it's called a carrier bushing? because it does not turn, but it is a ball inside a greased fitting with boots...

I bought the tool to pull and installed the "Rear Spindle Bushing" and using it was a dream. super easy and simple. Jay Bob's rear subframe was all out, so I rebuilt his spindle bushings, then today, I jacked up the rear, one side at a time, pulled the caliper, and rotor off the back. hooked up the tool, and push/pull done. wow... so easy.
I did have to bend the rotor shield a bit to fit the tool in. but it bent right back.

... ok, now my shifter won't go into park.
I pulled the top off, and looked down into the pivot area, and pulled out a penny and a nickel, but it still won't go into park. I crawled under, and the linkage is not hitting anything, so, I'm thinking there is an issue with the pawl... great.
sometimes it will go into park, others not... WTF???

Can you put it into park when the car is off?

When my governor gears failed, I replaced the two plastic gears, put the governor back in and had full access to all the gears but was unable to get the thing in to P unless I turned off the car. Turned out my governor popped out of the bore. I disabled the secondary pump, and reinstalled the gov and everything has been fine ever since.

I really want a 190D 2.5 Turbo after reading this thread.
I could deal with a N/A 190D even, it's just hard to find one for sale at a price I can afford.

nope.

sometimes when I park, it goes in fine, sometimes it will not. it feels like the shifter refuses to go, but from under the car, pulling on the linkage, I hear a "ting" as I try to put it in P...

makes no difference motor running or not.

Separate the two parts of the linkage at the transmission end and operate each in turn to identify which is at fault

That, I think (and hope), at least eliminates a governor related problem.

Have you tried having someone push the car forward/reverse as you try to engage park? Maybe something is up with the pawl?

How does the transmission operate other wise? All other selector positions work well/as expected?

it hasn't done it all day... perfect park each time since last night.

if it does it again, I'll pull the linkage and see if it's transmission or shifter focused.

when it refuses to go into park, it's DIFFICULT to even get it to stay in R. I have to hold the shifter in the R position...

any ideas?

ok, new issues... sortof.
the car begins to stall for fuel at approximately the 1/4 tank mark... I'm only getting around 12 gallons in it when it stalls, so it's not running out.
I put in a 100Gallon treatment of Diesel Clear, and reversed the fuel lines, to blow out the tank screen... WOW a HUGE HUGE improvement in power from the car! it COULD be from the MUCH colder air tonight, but I doubt it. more likely it's from the lack of plugged screen. I figure I'll give it 100 miles like that, then reverse the lines back, and fill the tank and see how far it goes.
the last fill up I averaged 32.19MPG... I wonder how I'll do once it has a clean tank screen and filters?
