1985 R107 A/C Doesn't Get Cold - Fix:
Was asked to look at an 85 380SL for dealership recently. They have a 'policy' of not taking in cars more than 8 years old, but want to appease a repeat customer with a new SL 63. The car had a 'quick' 134 retrofit, somewhere along the way, basically just the fittings it would appear, and hopefully, the correct oil. Anyways, I pointed out the need for a R134 specific expansion valve and condensor as part of my initial findings and correct type and amount of oil.
Later I was advised they changed the expansion valve and condensor, but still got vent temps that danced between 65° and 75°F on a 100°F day. I noticed two things they did not catch: 1. foam hose to in car temp sensor rotted away. 2. temp sensor blocked by hard plastic dash overlay. Once these two issues were addressed, vent temps dropped into the 40°'s (F) on a 100°F day. Hope this info is helpful...
