Transmission issues
I have a '95 E300 Diesel
The transmission seems to have a hard time shifting into reverse. I put it in reverse and push the accelerator and it feels like is doesn't want to go anywhere. I checked the oil it is burnt and black in color. All the other gears work fine. Should I change the oil or is it time for a rebuild?

ouch... burnt and black, that's certainly not a good sign. I would begin with a total fluid change. drop the pan, the filter, and drain the torque converter... I'd then install a new filter, and 5 quarts of fresh cheapo atf, and put a few miles on it, and drain and change the filter again. if reverse does not improve, you've got clutch issues...

What type of atf do I use in the tranny?
