85 300d motor dampeners mount?

My cheap crappy motor mounts from work gave in a few days ago and shot both motor dampeners, the shocks, through their mount. i saw that im looking at $160+ per mount to replace them. has anyone had any luck replacing the rubber with a bushing? does anyone think its possible? i have a huge supply rubber bushing at work to try if someone thinks it would work.

It doesn't hurt to try it, I have seen the mounts for $100 elsewhere though. There isn't really any excuse to use cheap motor mounts too, I just ordered some from here for $22.50 each that are the $145 mercedes ones with the mercedes logo scraped off.

I repaired one engine damper mount out by cleaning out the hardened rubber and stuffing the gap with rolled woven fiberglass w/ epoxy. After filling w/ more epoxy and painting black, you can't tell it isn't rubber. It took me ~1 hr but that is better than spending $190 that people ask for new ones.

I don't think it need to flex axially, since the shock does that. The rubber is probably just to let it swing radially so the shock shaft doesn't bind.

Finally, I have read that the main purpose of the dampers is to stop large shakes when you turn the engine off. They may not make much difference to the smaller vibrations during running. Probably another "luxury feature" like the electric heater water pump that you can live fine without.

my shocks have been dead for a long time. i was about to replace them when i saw the the old ones shot out of the mount. i plan on replacing the motor mounts before it gets to cold to work on the car. if the mounts only help when i shut the car off then i wont bother to fix them right now. i'm looking to smooth out idle when i start the beast up in the mornings.

Lemfoerder Motor Mounts are the same as the ones from the Dealer and a whole lot cheaper and don't cost much more than Febi or Meyle ones do.
