Not too sure, We know there is no compression in 4/6 cyl, and massive amounts of blowby whatever happened the damage is internal and quite severe. Does anyone have a cutaway of this engine? I may try my hand at rebuilding it.. I'd like to see what I'm up against. if I fail it's still a crap engine anyways.

While it's a good idea, it wont work, The only engines that will work come from 98 and 99 Series E300's. Anything different you'd have to try and convert and make it work with systems it was not designed for, which is a whole lot of tom foolery I dont care to do. a direct swap would be easier

May or may not be too bad in there. Bent or damaged valves suspected. Blowing some air into those two cylinders after manipulation of the pistons into location might help to verify.
There is one serious issue though. No sense repairing or replacing the engine until whatever caused the serious downshift on the highway is located. Otherwise a repeat of it is a possibility. |

There are enough differences that while it's possible, it would be extremely unwise. Turbo-ing a non-turbo motor is a great way to have a short-lived motor. Just put the right motor in, or buy a $500 junker to drive if you can't afford to fix it right.

What's different in a 606? Afaik they are the same valves cans crank and oil squirters.

I can't make time in the PO's calendar but I would pull the head ASAP for a sense of the damage. If the pistons and cylinder walls are good, PGAuto has a head for $1000. A 606 is daunting if it's the first head swap you ever do but it's less daunting than an engine swap. I might even risk a NA 606 head in a turbo application if it's a bolt on deal.

I think you bought a car similar to what engatwork bought - one that's been completely neglected through non-maintenance before you bought it. Nothing wrong with a "project-car," but you have to ask yourself how much time and MORE money you want to pour in it at this point. What's it's condition, anyway? Pictures? |

IF the guy needs/ed it for primary transportation, he could make an easy decision. I think he's got several cars, so this is probably an option car to keep or delete. |

I've got a total of about $7k in the 05 E320 wagon now and it has turned out to be a great car that does not seem to use oil.
I'm wondering if the long block for the 95 E300 is the same as the long block in the 99 model.
