Well, I am joking about the tranny bit. I need you to bring one.

I bet you would prefer the 5 speed manual with 1985 differential, powder coated, not painted.

About that, don't hold your breath.
All I have at the moment is a 4 speed that needs bearings, and it has a body waiting.
IF / When I have a 5 speed in hand, we can discuss this further.

You should have dropped a cup of degreaser in the oil filler hole and put the poor thing out of its misery.

Wait so this guy has been re-using the same oil and filters for nearly 300k? The guy may be crazy but its a major testament to the engineering of these cars for it to last this long.

Same filters. By my math he's actually doing an oil change every 1600 miles or so.

I suppose I could throw the master kit in the back of the e320 and run out of fuel a few miles from Roy's shop. Stupid reverse.

If the guy has managed to operate the car that cheaply for 295k miles, its possible has actually saved more money than if he had maintained it properly in terms of how much life he has gotten out of the car. I know the original owner of my 420 spent in the range of 28-30k (have all receipts) in dealer maintenance over the 18ish years he owned it.

Wouldn't surprise me especially if the work was done at a dealer.

Hattie's old SDL had a similar book of receipts. I friend of mine also had an 300E wagon which was fine.....until he told me it was 4MATIC $$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Holy cow. Some people are penny wise and pound foolish. Whunter, on behalf of stranded motorists everywhere, THANK YOU.

I had a friend offer me some diesel. He'd used it to clean wheel bearing or something? A quart or so of black fluid with unidentified sludge and sediment at the bottom, visible through the plastic bottle it was contained in. "Go ahead and dump it in, your fuel filters will take care of it."

I told him thank you for thinking of me, please start the bonfire with it. I'm not risking my IP and injectors or even a single fuel filter for $1 worth of diesel.
