Nello, your engine supposed to take only 8 quarts of oil, well technicaly 7.9 with a filter change. So it sounds like they dumped the whole 10 quarts you gave them. What brand oil did you use. I, like many others here, use Chevron Delo 400, and it comes is VERY convienent 1 gal jugs. So there is no accidentally putting in too much oil. I had something like this happen to me at my local VW dealership. When I bought my VW, all maintence was free for 2 years/24,000 miles. So starting at 10K, I switched to full synthetic oil (turbo engine), but I brought them my oil, had them put on the free oil filter. Well that car calls for a meager 3.7 quarts of oil, so I would bring them 4 quarts, well twice they just dumped the whole 4 quarts in. Now I know .3 quarts isn't alot of extra oil, but I found out that VW issued a service bulletin to all their dealers that by anymeans, no more than 3.7 quarts is supposed to be used. So, both times I had them take the extra out. They argued at first that the extra amount would do any harm, at which countered argued that obviously it would or VW would of issued a service bulletin.

Unhappy Final Chapter

Well, today I used the internet to find the Mobil station's phone number that is just down the street from the motel. I've bought diesel there and the people are friendly. I called to find out if they had Mobil 1 Synthetic in stock etc. After an hour of getting a busy signal, I gave up and walked to the Firestone place to ask them to get the oil and set a time for me to bring the car by.. the guy I talked to yesterday said they couldn't get the 15w50 (after telling me yesterday that they could) So I drove to Mobil station, found and bought 3 qts. and went back to Firestone. They put the oil in and gave me circa $18 back and apologized for everything. So now I have the right amount of oil in my baby, and hopefully won't have to go back to Firestone again about this issue.

One thing I did notice when it was overfilled.. right behind the oil cap is a hose that runs to the air filter/turbo.. oil had leaked/blown out at the clamped connection behind the oil cap. I wiped it off and today there is no oil leaking from that spot. Should this be of concern to me now, or just happened because of overfilling? Thanks to all who have helped me through this

Bump.

I just did an oil change on my 300d - and it read a little high on the stick.

I poured in 2 one gallon jugs of rotella-t (one was only 7/8ths full), and changed the filter out (umm, not in that order) the "Oil light" will come on frequelny. I did not prime the filter - so I figured the excess would end up there (among other places)

I'm letting it sit now, so I can get another (accurate) reading on the tube.

If one of the jugs wasn't all the way full I'd say you're probably ok or just barely above where it should be, likely nothing to worry about, if you're paranoid, drain out like .25 or .5 qt's and then check the level again. You could also just check the oil 40 times, and the oil from wiping it off the stick each time would amount to something.
